  • A man with a drinking problem is arrested near the Roosevelt Cemetery. Ten days later, he is arrested again at a bus stop in Vernal

    | by Travis Uresk | May 29th, 2026 | Roosevelt, Utah (5/18/26)—City Officials notified police that 26-year-old Aron Dean Oldham had been trespassed from the area of the Roosevelt Cemetery on May 14th, 2026. Officer Bellon was in the area and noticed that Aron's tent and property were still there. Aron was talking with cemetery staff when the officer approached him and asked about the night before. He was adamant he was leaving today and stated that he had been told he had till today and was just going to get a duffel bag to pack up his items. It was confirmed with Officer Wheeler that she did give him till to day. Aron had stayed through the night and was still present this morning, violating the clear notification that he was not to be there. Aron was arrested for criminal trespass, and while the officer spoke with him, his behavior was consistent with being under the influence of alcohol. Aron is known to be on probation through the 8th District Court for prior alcohol offenses. One of his conditions is not to purchase, possess, or consume any alcoholic beverages or enter any establishment where alcohol is the chief item of order. Officer Bellon asked Aron if there was any alcohol in his bag or his tent. He said there was some beer in his tent. While the police were inventorying Aron's property, they found a large number of empty beer and liquor bottles in his tent and the surrounding area. Several full cans of Miller Lite were also located. Aron was transported to the UBMC for medical clearance before being transported to the Duchesne County Jail. Vernal, Utah (5/28/26)—At around 3:00 pm, Officer Boren was dispatched to an intoxicated male lying down at a bus stop in the area of 73 W 100 N. The officer arrived at the bus stop where another Vernal City Officer was speaking with a male lying on the ground. The man on the ground was identified as 26-year-old Aron Dean Oldham by his Colorado-issued driver's license. Officer Boren could smell alcohol coming from Aron and saw an open case of beer and a backpack that Aron claimed was his. Sgt. Johnstun conducted a records check on Aron while Officer Boren continued to talk to Aron. Aron said he had consumed two beers when Sgt Johnstun confirmed Aron is an interdicted person based on an 8th District Court Roosevelt case. Aron was placed under arrest and taken to a patrol vehicle, and provided a portable breath test sample with a BrAC of 0.248. He was then transported to the Uintah County Jail and booked on the charge of Unlawful Purchase by Interdicted Person.

  • A male with a firearm threatens to kill a female and bury her in a ditch.

    | by Travis Uresk | May 28th, 2026 | Uintah County (5/27/26)—Uintah County Deputies were advised by dispatch of a call that an individual could hear a male and female fighting. While deputies were en route, dispatch advised the two were now outside physically fighting, and the male had a firearm. As Deputy Oldham approached the residence, the male had left but shortly returned and threatened to get into an altercation with law enforcement. The house sits off the main road down a dirt lane, and Deputy Oldham could see two people at the end of the lane. When he got to them, he saw a female trying to grab the male, who was actively trying to avoid her. The deputy got out of his patrol vehicle with his K9. The male began walking toward the deputy with his hands in the air while the deputy issued lawful commands for the suspect to get on the ground. Once the male was on the ground, Deputy McDavid secured the male in handcuffs. The male was later identified as 41-year-old Skyler Deloss Patton. Skyler Deloss Patton Photo from Truthfinder.com Once Skyler was secured in the back of a patrol vehicle, the female was interviewed. She stated they have livestock on the property where Skyler resides. When she came to take care of the livestock, Skyler began yelling at her. The female stated that she and another female became aggressive toward Skyler, but said nothing physical occurred; it was just verbal. Skyler then threatened the female, saying he was going to kill them and bury them in a ditch on the property. Skyler then went to his vehicle and retrieved a silver long-barreled handgun. The female told the deputy they believed the handgun was a real gun and was scared for their life. Skyler remained in the vehicle, brandishing the handgun and holding it in a position to allow the females to see it. The handgun was later located in a woodpile and was identified as a pellet gun. Skylar then left the property, but shortly returned. The other female began grabbing at the handgun to get it away from Skyler. Once she successfully got the handgun away from him, she placed it in the woodpile. He then produced another AR-style rifle and was threatening to use that rifle on law enforcement. The female again attempted to take the rifle out of Skyler's hand, but Skyler threw it over the fence, where the victim retrieved the rifle. While law enforcement was on the property, they found the rifle near the victim's vehicle, and while checking the firearm, they also found another pellet gun. There was another pellet gun near a shed where the male and the female were detained by law enforcement. That gun, along with the other two guns, was seized and booked into evidence. Skyler told Deputy Oldham that he does not get along with the victim. When she showed up, he said he was already having a bad day, and seeing her only made it worse. Skyler said there wasn't anything physical between them, only her trying to get him to calm down, and told the deputy he had been drinking throughout the day. When asked about threatening the victim, Skyler stated he would never hurt a woman. The deputy felt like he wasn’t telling the whole truth, and asked again. Skyler stated that he and the victim have not had a good relationship in a long time and mentioned putting her in the canal. Skyler was then transported to the Uintah County Jail. • The "Son" of Tabiona, who has a “Kill list,” threatens to shoot one on his victims

    | by Travis Uresk | May 27th, 2026 | Hanna, Utah (5/16/26)—Cpl. Cox with the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office was notified of a report of a threat made by 57-year-old Michael Deloy Dye, saying he was going to shoot the caller's husband. The deputy arrived, and the caller stated that her husband and other witnesses saw Mike pull up in front of his house, which they figured he was there to buy eggs, as he had done in the past. The daughter went into the house to get the eggs, and the husband said that Mike started yelling at him, saying things like he is the "Son" of Tabiona, and told the homeowner he is going to die. The husband said another person drove by, and Mike started yelling and waving at him. This individual told Cpl. Cox he believed Mike wanted to get his sprinkler parts back that had been loaned to him. When he got out of his vehicle, Mile began yelling and insulting him. Mike got out of his tractor and walked aggressively toward the man before turning away and telling him he was also on the list to die. The woman also told the deputy that when she was coming out of the house, she could hear Mike yelling and watch him take what appeared to be a long-barreled gun from his tractor. This was during the same time he was yelling at the two men outside, telling them they were going to die. She said the barrel appeared black, that he took it from the tractor, and put it back. Cpl. Cox was told they kept telling Mike to leave, but he kept yelling and threatening all of them. The deputy then went to Mike's residence and saw the tractor in the front driveway. Sgt. Bulow and Cpl. Cox was approaching the front of the house when he saw Mike walking toward them carrying a beer. They told Mike they were there to find out what had happened down the road. He began telling the deputies that all the drones flying in the air have been a problem, and that the Sheriff's Office won't do anything about it. Those drones and other things are killing his trees. Mike was told by the deputies that they needed to find out what had happened. He told them he was tired of his feet getting shocked, and he told the individuals who showed up and stole his sprinkler parts. Mike was asked if he had threatened to kill or shoot anyone, and he denied these claims. He was also asked whether he had any firearms. At first, he claimed he didn't have one, but then said he has a shotgun in the tractor that he has to move every time he gets in. He told the deputies that he never got out of the tractor. Cpl. Cox told him that multiple witnesses stated he had gotten out of the tractor, but he denied it. After listening to Mike continue his rant about government drones and his feet being shocked, he asked Cpl. Cox, if they were taking him to jail, and they told him that they were. He requested to grab something from his wife, which they allowed, on the condition that a deputy would follow him to the camper. The deputies then walked over to the camper, and he opened the door. There was a shotgun at the doorway. Mike then showed the deputy the rifle and told him that it was the rifle that was in the tractor during the incident. Mike said he was fixing the rifle, and it was a relic. Mike was then placed into handcuffs and into a patrol vehicle. Cpl. Cox spoke with Mike's girlfriend, who said he has been having serious mental health problems, that she is scared of him, and she has been gone for a period of time to get away from him. She told police that nothing physical had occurred to her; he had only threatened other people to her. Mike was then transported to the Duchesne County Jail. While at the jail, Deputy Brown conducted a search of his person and located a vape with a light colored substance. He said the odor appeared to be marijuana and asked Mike what it was, but Mike told him it was his girlfriend's because he was wearing her pants.

  • Police responded to a Brush Creek residence where a female was shooting at her sister

    | by Travis Uresk | May 27th, 2026 | Uintah County (5/24/26)—Deputies with the Uintah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a shots-fired call on Brush Creek Rd. The woman said her sister fired a gun at her several times. When police arrived on scene, a white van was leaving the property, from which they recognized the driver from previous law enforcement encounters with, and was identified as 55-year-old Dawn Marae Lafferty. Dawn was visibly upset with the police being there and immediately began asking why she was being detained for simply shooting at coyotes. Deputy McDavid told her they were there to investigate shots being fired at her sister. Dawn claimed again that she was just hunting coyotes. While police were speaking with Dawn, Trooper Ryan with the UHP noticed a revolver sitting on the front passenger seat. Dawn was asked if that was the gun she was using to shoot at the coyotes, and she replied, "Does it matter?" She was informed by the deputy that, due to the investigation, it does matter and she wouldn't answer any of his questions. Dawn finally said that the dogs had come up to her vehicle while she was driving down the driveway, and she was trying to get them away by shooting the gun. Deputy McDavid then spoke with Dawn's sister, who said she had seen Dawn enter the driveway and heard a single gunshot. She continued down the driveway and reached the top of the hill, where the residence is. Dawn and her sister started arguing. During the argument, three more shots were fired from the revolver the trooper found on the passenger seat. She also stated that Dawn was at the base of the hill, firing the gun toward her. The deputy then asked her what she believed was happening with the gunshots, and she stated that she believed Dawn was firing in her direction in a threatening manner. Police spoke with Dawn's son, who told them that earlier in the day he received a text message from Dawn saying that if he didn't get her sister off the property, she would come over and do it herself. Deputy McDavid returned to Dawn, placed her under arrest, and transported her to the Uintah County Jail by Trooper Ryan. A search warrant was obtained and approved by a judge to retrieve the firearm from the vehicle. When the gun was taken from the vehicle, it was checked for safety. The police found three spent shell casings that were still in the revolver. When the trooper arrived at the jail with Dawn, she slammed the handcuffs against the wall, breaking them. Dawn Lafferty was booked into the Uintah County Jail on the following charges: Aggravated Assault (DV)-For the argument and then the discharge of a firearm as an immediate show of force. Felony Discharge of a Firearm-For discharging the handgun from the vehicle. Property Damage-For breaking the cuffs she was placed in. This current offense is a felony, and there is substantial evidence to support the charge, and through clear and convincing evidence that Dawn Lafferty would constitute a substantial danger to another individual or to the community, or is likely to flee the jurisdiction of the court if released on bail. Given the facts of the case, if Dawn is released from jail, she would pose a substantial risk to her sister. She has already fired multiple shots in her sister's direction during the course of this incident. As well as the message she had sent her son about "Taking care of it herself" before committing these crimes. Traffic and Criminal Report

  • A resident with dementia at an assisted living facility was groped by a visitor

    | by Travis Uresk | May 26th, 2026 | Vernal, Utah (5/24/26)—At 5:40 pm, police were notified of a sexual offense that occurred at the Landmark Assisted Living facility at 301 E 100 S. The administrator of the facility told dispatch that one of the residents, who is a 69-year-old with dementia, was groped by a visitor. Officer Monsen with the VPD arrived at the address and spoke with the administrator and a CNA who witnessed the incident. The CNA told the officer she was walking another resident to the main living room when she saw a man with his hand on the woman's breast. The administrator, the CNA, or any staff member has ever seen the man at the facility before. The CNA walked up to the man and told him not to do that, and it was her job to protect the residents. The man left, and she was able to get his license plate number. The administrator told the officer that the incident had been recorded on the security cameras. In the video, a man walks into the main living room and goes straight toward the victim sitting in a chair. He talks to the victim momentarily and then gives her a hug. When he leans down to give the victim a hug, he places his left hand on her breast and keeps it there during the hug. The man stands back up, briefly talks to the victim, then sits down in a chair next to the woman and talks to her for about 30 minutes. He then stands up, hugs the woman, and again places his hand on her breast for at least 2 minutes. In the video, you can clearly see the man's hand grasping and manipulating the victim's breast. It also appears in the video that he leans in closer and looks like he kisses the victim. At this point in the recording, the CNA mentioned earlier walks over to James and tells him to stop what he was doing. The male then leaves the building. The victim's daughter arrived and was shown the security footage, and neither she nor her family knew who the man was. Officer Monsen took the daughter to her mother's room to ask her some questions about what had happened. The officer tried to speak to the victim, but it was apparent that due to the severity of her dementia, she couldn’t follow a conversation about the sexual abuse. Officer Monsen conducted a records check on the license plate number provided by the CNA. The number was returned to a white 2023 Chevrolet Corvette, which was registered to 69-year-old James Irving Magee. From the exterior camera footage at the Landmark, it was clearly seen in the video that a newer white Corvette was parked in the parking lot, and that James left the area in that same vehicle. The officer located James’ address in Vernal and drove to his residence, and knocked on the door. James opened the door wearing the same clothing seen in the security camera footage. Officer Monsen told James he had a couple of questions. James confirmed that he had a white 2023 Corvette and that he had been at Landmark Assisted Living earlier. He claimed he hadn't seen the woman in a long time and went there to visit with her. The officer asked what the conversation was about, and James stated they were just visiting. He paused for a moment and said, "I did touch her boob." During questioning, James was asked when he last spoke to the victim, and he thought it was approximately 2 years ago. James confirmed this was the first time talking to the victim since she's been staying at the assisted living facility. James was asked about the difference between the victim when they last spoke and how she was in today's interaction. James stated that their interaction tonight was good, but she couldn't remember much. He was then asked if she remembered him, and James stated, "Kind of, it was iffy if she would or wouldn't remember me." The officer then asked about him putting his hand on the woman’s breast, and James said he didn’t really grab her, but when he went to hug her, he did put his hand on her breast, and said, “I admit it.” James was asked if it could have been an accident, and he said, “It started out as an accident, and then I did it.” On multiple occasions, James would state that he had admitted it, that he had totally screwed up, and that it was his own stupidity. The officer asked about the kissing, and James claimed the victim kissed him on the cheek, but he did not believe that he kissed the victim. James stated that he screwed up and admitted what he had done. Officer Monsen asked James why he felt this way. James stated he hadn't spoken to her, didn’t know what her "capacity" was, and "to take advantage of somebody like that." He then stopped that sentence and stated that it wasn't for more than two to three seconds, and then stated he did touch her boobs. Officer Monsen determined that there was enough probable cause that James committed forcible sexual abuse, and arrested and transported James to the Uintah County Jail. Traffic and Criminal Report

  • An intoxicated male was found lying on Main Street in Vernal

    | by Travis Uresk | May 24th, 2026 | Vernal, Utah (5/24/26)—An intoxicated male was found lying in the roadway near 700 E and Main Street. When the police arrived, they found him lying on his side in the parking lane just outside the outer lane of travel. Across the street, police noticed a vehicle with its hazard lights on, and the officer first thought the man may have been hit by a passing vehicle. As the police pulled up next to the man, he started to get up, and he was asked if he was ok, to which he replied he was. The officer had the man sit on the ground in fear that he might fall and hurt himself. The man was later identified as 43-year-old Justin Glen Andrews. While the officer spoke to Justin, he could smell the odor of alcohol and noticed that he had urinated in his pants. It was very obvious that Justin was very intoxicated, and was able to tell the officer how he got to where he was. Justin was requested to submit to a PBT test, which he refused to do. Because Justin was found so intoxicated and lying in the roadway, he was a danger to himself and others, and was arrested for public intoxication. At the Uintah County Jail, Justin's wallet and pack of cigarettes were placed on the counter in the prebooking area to be added to his property. Later, a deputy at the jail opened the pack of cigarettes and found a couple of cigarettes and a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette. Justin refused to be interviewed by the police and was booked into jail. Traffic and Criminal Report

  • An anonymous caller turns in a female for drinking and driving

    | by Travis Uresk | May 24th, 2026 | Vernal, Utah (5/16/26)—Central Dispatch put out an ATL on an intoxicated driver who had been drinking and driving all day, and could barely stand up. The caller also stated that she was driving a newer model Jeep Wrangler and gave a license plate number. A short time later, a white Jeep Wrangler was spotted parked at the Top Stop on 1500 E 500 S with the same license plate number. The Jeep passed by the officer while in the parking lot, and he recognized the driver as 50-year-old Carly Yates. As Carly left the parking lot and turned left, she failed to come to a complete stop before entering the roadway. She then went North on 1500 E and turned into the parking lot of Heritage Chevrolet. The officer pulled into the parking lot right behind her. The officer asked Carly if she had been drinking any alcohol, and she said, "No." Due to the ATL of Carly being called in as an intoxicated driver, and the officer smelling the odor of alcohol coming from Carly, He requested that she do a series of field sobriety tests. After performing the HGN test, Officer Samuels didn’t think Carly was telling the truth about drinking alcohol. She did admit to drinking two glasses of wine. • A female tells a deputy she found AI-generated child pornography on a male’s phone

    | by Travis Uresk | May 19th, 2026 | Uintah County, Utah (5/19/26)—A female walked into the lobby of the Uintah County Sheriff's Office and requested to speak with a deputy in private. Deputy W. Russell escorted the woman to a private area of the sheriff's office, where a formal interview was conducted. The woman was visibly upset and paranoid that someone would hear what she was about to tell him. During the interview, the female said she discovered concerning material on a cellular phone belonging to 37-year-old Beau J. Peterson. The images on Beau's phone depict numerous AI-generated children engaged in sexual acts. The complainant further advised that at least one of the children depicted in those AI-generated images resembled her nine-year-old daughter. In addition to the AI-generated material, the female stated she had also discovered on Beau's phone a real photograph of her nine-year-old daughter, completely unclothed and standing in the living room of her home. She also stated that this image appeared to have been captured as a screenshot from security camera footage recorded inside her trailer, which Beau had access to. Beau J. Peterson Photo from truthfinder.com The female provided information and evidence to investigators during this interview, which formed the basis for further investigative action. Based on the information gathered during the interview, Deputy W. Russell, along with a detective, went to Beau's place of employment, where the detectives explained the reason for their visit and asked him to come with them to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office for an interview. Before being transported, Beau was hesitant to enter a patrol vehicle and voluntarily disclosed that he had syringes in his pocket. He removed the syringes from his person and admitted that they possibly contained methamphetamine. He was then transported to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. Prior to the interview, Beau was advised of his Miranda rights, and he confirmed that he understood them and wished to speak with the investigators. During the interview, Deputy W. Russell asked Beau about the images found on his cell phone. He admitted he had the images on his phone and said he had used an AI app on his device to generate them. When the deputy inquired about the real photo of the nine-year-old child found on his phone, Beau stated that the image had been taken "accidentally." He explained that he had been reviewing the security camera footage from inside the residence and had taken a screenshot of a portion in which the child was in the living room without clothing. The deputy confronted Beau with another image on his phone. This image depicted a child matching the appearance of the nine-year-old female victim, who showed the child in a position appearing to be about to perform a sexual act on an adult male. Beau admitted that the male genitalia depicted in the image was his own and that he had used it within the AI application to generate the image. Deputy W. Russell believed there was enough probable cause to arrest Beau Peterson for the following offenses under Utah law: Two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, in violation of Utah Code 76-5b-201, which prohibits knowingly possessing, producing, or distributing child sexual abuse material, including AI-generated depictions of minors engaged in sexual conduct. Beau admitted to using an AI application to generate images depicting minors, including a child resembling the nine-year-old victim, engaged in sexual acts, and further admitted to incorporating his own image into such material. First-degree felonies. Production of apparent child sexual abuse material, in violation of Utah Code 76-5b-208, which an actor commits distribution of apparent child sexual abuse material if the actor intentionally: (a) distributes apparent child sexual abuse material; or (b) produces apparent child sexual abuse material. Beau admitted to taking the photo of the nine-year-old child in the living room and then using that image in an AI platform to generate child sexual abuse material. Second-degree felony. Possession of a Controlled Substance / Drug Paraphernalia, in violation of Utah Code 58-37-8 and Utah Code 58- 37a-5, based on Beau's voluntary disclosure and admission that syringes in his possession possibly contained methamphetamine. Misdemeanor A for the drug and Misdemeanor B for the paraphernalia. Additionally, Deputy W. Russell requested that Beau be held without bail. During the interview with the complainant, and subsequently confirmed by Beau himself during his interview, it was disclosed that during a prior argument, the complainant had confronted Beau about the images on his phone. In response, Beau became upset and made a direct threat, stating that he would kill the complainant and then kill himself if the matter was ever reported to law enforcement. Given the nature of this explicit threat, the severity of the offenses, and Beau's demonstrated access to the complainant's residence and her minor child, the deputy’s opinion is that releasing him on bail poses a significant and credible risk of retribution against the complainant, her nine-year-old daughter, and other immediate family members caring for the minor child. • An officer interviews a female victim of domestic violence from a hospital bed

    | by Travis Uresk | May 21st, 2026 | Vernal, Utah (May 19th, 2026)—Cpl. White received call notes on his onboard computer while responding to a report of an assault, stating that the female victim was at a local hospital. The officer met with the nurse who had been treating the woman, who informed Cpl. White, it was reported to them that the woman and her partner, identified as 56-year-old Alvin Russell Kartchner, met the night before to talk. The conversation evolved into an argument and eventually into Alvin choking the woman. The officer was curious if the strangulation resulted in the woman losing consciousness, and the nurse stated it did not, but it almost did. The woman reported to medical staff that the voices were getting quieter and that her vision was going dark. When the woman woke up the next morning, she felt as though her throat was swollen from the inside, and she had difficulty swallowing. The nurse told Cpl. White didn't observe any bruising on the female's neck, but did see what she believed to be claw marks on the female's throat. It was reported that this was not the first incident between Alvin and the female, and sometimes he would both hit and choke her. The nurse told Cpl. White that the female was being treated on this day because her neck had begun to feel swollen, her airway felt "tight," and it was painful to swallow. She was concerned that her throat would progress into something worse. Alvin Russell Kartchner Photo from truthfinder.com Cpl. White then spoke to the victim, who described the incident between her and Alvin: she had gone to Alvin's house, and they were just hanging out. Alvin wanted to have sex, and she didn't. He then accused her of being involved with other people. She stated she then stood up and was kind of in Alvin's face, at which point he lost it. She then demonstrated being choked. She told the officer there was no escalation prior to Alvin strangling her, and then stated, "Previously, there would be punching or hitting, but that during this incident, Alvin went straight for my neck." The beaten female disclosed that there were approximately three or four strangulation events the previous night. The victim described that during most of the strangulations, Alvin used both of his hands, which he placed around the front of her throat. The woman also described that at one point, he put her in a headlock, with his forearm across the top of her face and eyes, and grabbed the front of her throat with one hand. The victim told the Corporal that during the attack, Alvin told her that she wasn’t going to leave him, and he would kill her and bury her body in his backyard. Cpl. White asked the female if there was ever a time that she had lost consciousness during any of the strangulation events, and she stated that she did not lose consciousness. However, she did say there was a time when she felt as though she was going to pass out. She described that she was lightheaded and that she had a headache following the strangulation. At times, her vision was woozy, and she stated it was like when you're too drunk, but she was having a really hard time remembering that incident. She also said, following the strangulation, she would dry heaved and was nauseous, and described feeling faint, dizzy, and lightheaded. Then her neck hurt so badly that she couldn't sleep. The Corporal inspected the woman’s neck and observed markings on the right side. There were several small reddish lines in relatively close proximity to one another. It was the officer’s observations that the markings were consistent with the victim’s statements, as they appeared consistent with someone having grabbed her neck with significant force. One of the red lines curved, and the appearance of the curved line was consistent with the outline of a finger/finger tip. She also had defensive marks on her right forearm when Alvin went to attack her. When the female would rotate her neck or head, she appeared to be in pain. Cpl. White completed a domestic violence lethality assessment with the female, and the results of the test showed she qualified as high-danger. The female stated there were approximately seven previous similar incidents between 2025 and 2026. Cpl. White conducted a query and located an active sentencing protective order between the female and Alvin, in which she was listed as the protected party. He then conducted a records query of Alvin and learned that the protective order was connected to a court case in which Alvin was convicted of stalking the victim (Third Degree Felony – DV). At the time of this incident, Alvin was on felony probation for domestic violence-related charges involving the victim. Cpl. White made several attempts over several days to make contact with Alvin, but was unsuccessful. On May 19th, 2026, Naples City Police Officer Silcox made contact with Alvin near his residence, at which time he was taken into custody on an active warrant for his arrest in connection with several other domestic violence related charges separate from this incident. Cpl. White was notified that Alvin had been taken into custody and transported to the Uintah County Jail, where he interviewed him. During that interview, Alvin denied meeting with the victim on the day of the incident and further denied any additional allegations against him. Due to the information contained within the affidavit, Alvin Russell Kirchner will be booked into the Uintah County Jail on the following charges: Violation of a sentencing protective order for knowingly violating a sentencing protective order in which the conviction was a felony pursuant a third degree felony. Aggravated assault (domestic violence) for having acted with unlawful force or violence that intentionally or knowingly impeded the breathing or the circulation of blood of another individual by applying pressure to that individual's neck or throat pursuant to a third-degree felony. Threat of violence (domestic violence) for having threatened to commit an offense involving death, accompanied by an immediate show of force or violence toward an individual pursuant to a class B misdemeanor. Additionally, Cpl. White requested that Alvin Russell Kartchner be held without bail due to his being on felony probation for acts committed against the victim in this case, his disregard for the aforementioned sentencing protective order, and his continued acts of violence against the victim in this case. The agents also found a black pouch containing 10 baggies of blue fentanyl pills, with 100 pills per bag, a silver metal container with twenty one Fentanyl Pills, a prescription pill container with 11 fentanyl pills, a container with 10 prescription suboxone strips not properly marked or stored in the proper prescription box, a plastic baggie containing Methamphetamine, a glass pipe used to smoke Methamphetamine with residue, a glass pipe to smoke marijuana with residue, a black container with marijuana and a plastic baggie with 10 Oxycodone mix pills. Also, in a wallet inside the purse, was $583 in cash, along with a note listing three names and dollar amounts. Under the front passenger seat, multiple pieces of tinfoil with burn marks were found. In the center cup holder area were two plastic straws, which had been melted and appeared to be used as a tutor straw. In the vehicle's center console was a digital scale. Kathryn and Jerry were read their Miranda Rights. She stated that the Methamphetamine in the purse was hers, and Jerry declined to speak to the agents without his attorney present. In total, 1033 Fentanyl pills were seized. Through the agent's experience investigating the distribution of illegal narcotics, and his knowledge of Jerry Rich being involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics, this quantity of Fentanyl is to be distributed and sold, along with the digital scale. Although the pills were found in Kathryn's purse, information obtained during prior investigations, together with the fact that both individuals were traveling in the vehicle and returning from the Wasatch Front area, where the agents believe they had just obtained the Fentanyl, supports the conclusion that Jerry Rich had knowledge of, and was actively involved in, the possession and distribution of the pills. Based on the search of the vehicle and the evidence recovered, Jerry Rich is being charged with the following offenses: Possession of a controlled substance- Fentanyl F3 Possession of a controlled substance- Methamphetamine Possession of Marijuana Possession of paraphernalia Possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II drug (Fentanyl) Possession of a controlled substance- Oxycodone pills Possession of a controlled substance- Suboxone strips Based on the search of the vehicle and the items that were found, the agent charged Kathryn Simmons with the following charges: Possession of a controlled substance- Fentanyl F3 Possession of a controlled substance- Methamphetamine Possession of Marijuana Possession of paraphernalia Possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II drug (Fentanyl) Possession of a controlled substance- Oxycodone pills Possession of a controlled substance- Suboxone strips Kathryn and Jerry were transported and booked into the Duchesne County Jail. | by Travis Uresk | May 18th, 2026 | Vernal, Utah (5/16/26)—Cpl. Candelas was notified of a hit and run at approximately 1050 W Highway 40. There was also a report of a road rage incident in the same area. The description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run and the road rage incident matched. It was reported that a large white male in a red shirt was driving recklessly, nearly hitting multiple vehicles. Both complainants also mentioned that the male exited his White Toyota Rav4 with no License plate at a red light at the intersection of 1000 West Highway 40, approached a Tesla, and was banging on the window. The next day, Cpl. Candelas located the driver of the Rav4, who identified himself as 52-year-old Brian Glenn Smith and presented a Utah driver's license. The officer asked Brian about the incident that occurred in front of McDonald's. Brian stated, " It was a road rage incident," and informed Cpl. Candelas said that he had video footage of the incident on his dash cam. He gave the officer consent to collect the video from the dash camera. The dash cam video shows Brian entering Vernal traveling eastbound with a Tesla in front of Brian at a great distance. The Tesla was traveling in the number 2 lane, signaled, and moved into the number 1 lane, which was the same lane Brian was in. At this time, there was still a significant gap between the two vehicles. When the Tesla entered the number 1 lane, Brian yelled, " What the Fuck! Fucking bitch." The Tesla had created even more space between the two vehicles at this point. After passing Walmart, Brian sped up to 65 miles per hour, catching up to the Tesla. The light at the intersection of 1000 South and Highway 40 was red, and Brian cut off a Jeep to get right behind the Tesla. When the light turned green, Brian began to drive normally, and once the Tesla moved back over to the number 1 lane, a truck pulling a trailer was moving into the center turning lane, still partially in the number 2 lane. Brian accelerates in the number 2 lane, nearly crashing into the back end of the trailer. A black SUV is then in the number 1 lane. Brian then accelerated and drove around the SUV, nearly hitting it. The Tesla, still ahead of Brian, got back into lane 1 as Brian was attempting to pass it. In the video, Brian says, " You are not going to control me dickhead." and gets into the number 2 lane, and the Tesla gets back into the number 2 lane as well. Brian then continues to accelerate, passing the Tesla on the shoulder of the road, which ended up impacting the Tesla's front passenger side with his rear driver side. At the following intersection, 1000 West Highway 40, the light is red, and Brian gets into the number 1 lane, and the Tesla gets into the turning lane. Brian exits his vehicle and walks towards the Tesla. Brian also has a rear dash camera that recorded the incident in which he hit the Tesla's driver's door glass, then began walking away, stopped, turned around, and stomped his foot to intimidate the Tesla's driver. Brian gets into his vehicle and drives straight home a few blocks away. Brian was arrested for failure to comply with the duties of a vehicle accident, a class B misdemeanor, and reckless driving, with a road rage enhancement to a class A misdemeanor.
