The suspect in this article is currently listed as John Doe, as law enforcement was unable to verify his identity due to his Mexican citizenship and the and only provided the name of "Miguel Robledo," which will be used in this article.
On June 28, 2025, Deputy Young received a call from dispatch regarding a 911 unknown call, which provided GPS coordinates; however, the location was in a field South of Pelican Lake.
During the 911 call, a female voice was heard crying, and a male voice yelling in the background before the call was disconnected.
Deputy Anderton and Young drove down the road and found a trailer house and a vehicle with its lights on near the home behind a barbed wire fence.
The deputies approached the vehicle and could see that the driver's side door was open, and they could also see under the truck from the fence. A female was lying on her back with Miguel sitting on top of her with his hands near her throat.
The deputies ran toward the truck, yelling at Miguel to get off of her. There was a rifle lying next to them that had been broken into several pieces.
The female was able to push away and ran toward the deputies. Miguel put his hands behind his back into his waistband. Deputy Young drew his service weapon and ordered him to lie on the ground, but Miguel refused to comply even after the female relayed the deputy's commands in Spanish.
Deputy Young radioed to dispatch that he had one at gunpoint who was non-compliant, and Deputy Anderton drew his taser while Deputy Young maintained cover with his service weapon.
Miguel was ordered to get on the ground several more times before Deputy Anderton deployed his taser on Miguel. He continued to resist arrest by moving his hands underneath his body, not letting the officers get to his hands to place him into handcuffs. After a short struggle, Miguel was detained.
The female did not speak English very well and gave Deputy Young a verbal statement as best she could. She stated that she told Miguel that she wanted to take her rifle and shoot prairie dogs, and he agreed to come along with her.
When they got to the field, he told her that he was drunk and didn't feel good. She asked him, 'Why did you come?" They began to argue. The victim stated that she smacked his stomach while he was lying in the passenger seat.
They both got out of the vehicle when he hit her on the side of the face with a closed fist. She began to walk to the house, and he jumped into the vehicle. He began to follow her with the truck while yelling "bitch" and other obscenities at her. She turned around to get back into the vehicle, and he pressed on the gas and hit her with the vehicle. She fell to the ground, got back up, and began to run towards the house.
While she was walking, Miguel hit her with the vehicle three more times but did not run her completely over. After she got up the last time, she realized she left her phone in the truck. She walked to the passenger side of the vehicle and grabbed her cell phone. She called 911, and Miguel exited the truck. He took the phone from her and broke the phone.
She attempted to run to the house, and he followed her in the vehicle. Before she could make it to the house, Miguel exited the truck, grabbed her by the arm, and forced her to the ground next to the vehicle. She attempted to scream for her sons in the house to call 911.
Miguel put his hands around her throat to prevent her from screaming. He then moved his hands over her mouth. He grabbed the gun from the open driver-side door while sitting on top of her. He pointed the gun to her head and told her he would kill her first, so she didn't watch him kill her children. He held the gun to her head for several minutes before breaking it into pieces next to her.
Miguel continued to sit on top of her and hold her by the arms and shoulders for about five minutes until the police arrived.
The female had bruising to her hips from being hit by the vehicle. She had bruising to her face from being struck by Miguel. She also had lacerations on her arms and shoulders from the struggle on the ground.
There was a toddler in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle, where she would have been present for the entire incident.
Miguel had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person when he spoke and admitted to drinking at least "three" alcoholic beverages. Several empty cans of beer were located outside the residence, and a single empty can was found on the floorboard of the passenger side of the vehicle.
Miguel was booked into the Uintah County Jail on the charges of five counts of aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child, interruption of a communication device, public intoxication, and interfering with a peace officer.
26-year-old John Doe “Miguel Robledo,” is being held without bail.
A statement by Deputy Young:
"Miguel was reported to be a citizen of Mexico and had only been working in the area for about a year. He made threats to kill the victim and her children and made substantial steps to act on the threats. He would likely be a substantial danger to the victim, her children, or other members of the community if released. He is currently not identified with the name he gave and would likely flee the jurisdiction of the court if released. It is my recommendation that Miguel not be released on bail."
