4/9/23

Vernal, Ut.- On 4/4/23, Officer O’Donnal with the VPD was called to a domestic that had occurred around 200 West 100 North.

When the Officer arrived, he met with a male and a female who were already separated.

Officer O'Donnal spoke with the female, who stated an argument started with the male, identified as 23-year-old Johnathen Michael Brown, calling her lazy and stupid.

The victim said she attempted to leave the home because she didn't want to be around. She stated Brown stopped her from leaving and pushed him because he wouldn't stop holding her. The victim stated she tried calling the police, and Brown grabbed and threw the phone. She got her phone and tried calling the police again, and Brown slapped the phone out of her hand.

The victim also stated Brown had grabbed, pulled, and thrown her into the wall. Brown ripped her jacket in the process. The Officer saw the rip above the left shoulder.

The victim told the Officer that Brown tried placing her into a headlock but got free and grabbed a frying pan for self-defense. Brown then grabbed a knife and put it to his throat, saying, "He was going to kill himself." The victim then left the home and went to the road.

Officer O'Donnal spoke with Johnathen, and he stated he asked to spend time with the victim. He stated the victim is currently 2-3 weeks pregnant and hormonal, and he was trapped in the room by the victim and wasn't allowed to leave.

Brown said the victim left and returned with a friend, where he was insulted by the friend, and a physical altercation started between them. O'Donnal asked Brown how the jacket got ripped, and Brown said he was unsure how the jacket was ripped but believed it ripped while the victim was going outside.

Officer O'Donnal asked Brown if he followed her outside, and he said he did follow her, trying to figure out what was happening. Brown was then asked about the knife being placed against his throat. Brown said she reached for the knife, and he asked her if she was going to stab him.

Johnathen Brown was arrested for assault on a pregnant woman and using unlawful force against the victim, interference of an electronic communication device as he slapped the phone out of the victim's hand while trying to call emergency services, and domestic violence in the presence of a child as a six-month-old baby was inside the home during the time of the incident.

Johnathen Brown is being held without bail.
