While out on patrol, Officer Bellon ran a license plate on an Infiniti. The plate came back as being registered to a Chrysler. The officer stopped the vehicle at 930 E 300 N.
Upon activating the emergency lights and the vehicle stopping, 31-year-old Grant Hurbert Checora exited the vehicle and began running westbound.
Officers gave multiple commands for Grant to stop. The chase ended near 900 E, where Grant was placed into custody. A knife was found in the sheath in Grant's back pocket.
When asked why he ran, he stated it was because he had warrants. Dispatch verified that Grant had four active warrants for his arrest. A search of Grant’s person was performed, and a syringe was found in his front pocket.
Officer Bellon verified Grant’s driver's license status, which showed that his license was currently denied for reinstatement fee, and there was also no current insurance on the vehicle.
After Grant was advised of his rights, he was asked if he had used any drugs. He responded that he had used Methamphetamine a few hours prior. Due to his response to using drugs, standardized field sobriety tests were conducted by a Duchesne County Sheriff's Deputy who advised that Grant showed signs of impairment.
Grant was transported to the Uinta Basin Medical Center, where he consented to a blood draw.
Grant Checora was transported to the Duchesne County Jail without incident and booked in for the charges of:
For Failure to Stop at the Command of Law Enforcement, Unlawful Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving on a Denied License, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Using Plates Registered to Another Vehicle, and Driving under the influence.
