Uintah County Deputies were called to the Coal Mine Basin Road area on a report of a discharged firearm.
Dispatch call notes on Deputy Fairey's onboard computer indicated that a female called saying that her boyfriend, 21-year-old JJ Todd Gaisford, was drunk and had recklessly discharged a firearm numerous times.
The female stated she and JJ had been arguing, and she had taken his keys to prevent him from driving while intoxicated. JJ then obtained a handgun and shot multiple rounds into the air. After shooting the gun, the female drove off, leaving the area.
Deputy Fairey arrived and located the female, who told the officer about the argument with JJ because he wanted to drive after drinking alcohol and possibly going to a friend's house to use narcotics.
She then took the keys to prevent JJ from driving; he pushed her, causing her to stumble. JJ retrieved the 9mm from a nearby camp chair and discharged the firearm multiple times, twice into the air and once into the ground close to where the female was sitting in the vehicle.
Fearing for her safety, the female drove away from the scene.
With assistance from other deputies, JJ was located walking down the road and taken into custody without incident. JJ appeared intoxicated and later provided a breath sample showing a BRAC of .205.
Deputies located JJ walking, and he was found to have in his possession unopened containers of alcohol. Additional containers of alcohol and a 9mm handgun were found along the road JJ was walking on.
JJ was complaining of an injury to his hand from falling into the campfire and was transported to the emergency room for medical clearance.
At the hospital, JJ was read his rights, and he admitted that he had been drinking and firing the handgun after the argument with his girlfriend, but denied ever pushing her.
JJ made inconsistent claims about the timing of the gunshots and whether his girlfriend was present when they were fired.
JJ Gaisford is being held in the Uintah County Jail without bail.
