Man arrested for his involvement in the burglary at the Basin Livestock Sales Barn in Ballard

Ballard, Utah (5/6/26)—Deputy Pratt with the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office received information that 43-year-old Daniel Patrick Engle had direct involvement with the burglary at the Basin livestock sales barn in the Ballard area.
During this burglary, multiple power tools, miscellaneous electronics, checkbooks, bank records, cash, a dump truck, and a Polaris Side by Side were stolen.
Of course, the burglary occurred after hours, and the building and the office were broken into.
The dump truck, side by side, some of the power tools, and checkbooks were recovered. The side-by-side was spray-painted inside and out, and the ignition was also damaged, so the vehicle could be hot-wired.
Deputy Pratt was told that Daniel would check in with his Probation Officer at the Provo AP&P office on the morning of May 7th, 2026. The deputy drove to Provo to interview Daniel about the incident.
However, when Daniel was read his Miranda Rights, he requested that he not speak until an attorney was present. Daniel was placed under arrest and transported to the Uintah County Jail, and booked on the following charges.
Burglary-A Felony 3- for Daniel entering the Basin sale barn building unlawfully and committing a theft.
Theft of a motor vehicle, a Felony 2, for the side-by-side being stolen from the property.
Theft of a motor vehicle, a Felony 2, for the dump truck being stolen from the property.
Criminal Mischief-a Felony 3- for the value of the damage done to the side-by-side by painting it.
Deputy Pratt asked the court and/or the Judge not to grant Daniel bail. The deputy stated, "There is substantial evidence to support the charge, and through clear and convincing evidence that Daniel Engle would constitute a substantial danger to any other individual or to the community, or is likely to flee the jurisdiction of the court if released on bail.”
In Deputy Pratt's next statement in the probable cause report, he states, "Daniel has moved out of the area and is now living in the Utah County Area. I was given a new address in Goshen; Daniel provided me with an address in Spanish Fork; and our records show another address in Spanish Fork. With these multiple different addresses being reported, I believe Daniel has likely attempted to provide False addresses."
