At about 2:30 p.m., Deputy Guymon observed a black Chevrolet Silverado with a fraudulent license plate driving West on SR-43, with a male and female in the front seats.
The deputy recognized the driver as 53-year-old Garth Orian Stringer and the passenger as 41-year-old Brittany B Stephenson from a previous traffic stop on 10/25/24.
The deputy turned around, caught up to the vehicle, and stopped the truck. Stringer pulled over on the left side of the road near the Flaming Gorge Brew Co, approximately SR-43 at 500 East in Manila.
Deputy Guymon told Stringer the traffic stop was due to the fraudulent license plate. He asked Stringer if he had a driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance, but Stringer didn’t acknowledge the question. The deputy told Stringer he was detained and couldn’t leave and exit the vehicle.
Sheriff Bailey arrived and called for a tow truck to take Stringer's vehicle. Deputy Guymon told Stringer he was not free to go, and they called a tow truck to pick up his truck. Stringer said, "We are not going to do this again," and put the truck in drive. Stringer was told to stop and wasn't allowed to leave, but he turned the truck around and drove away from the traffic stop.
Sheriff Bailey told dispatch that they would be in pursuit of the Chevrolet Silverado.
The Deputies chased Stringer past the Utah and Wyoming border. Uinta and Sweetwater counties in Wyoming were notified that the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office was in pursuit of a black Chevrolet.
Around mile marker 120 on Highway 414, the Uinta County Sheriff's Office set up spike strips to try to stop the truck. The Chevy ran over the spike strip and came to a stop around mile marker 119.5.
Once Stringer and Stephenson were removed from the felony stop, the vehicle was secured, and Deputy Guymon performed an inventory of the vehicle. He found a loaded firearm in the driver's side door pocket near where his right leg was. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found on the passenger side of the vehicle in the glove box.
Stringer was found in possession of a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia on October 25, 2024, during that traffic stop.
