On Friday at 10:43 PM, Central Dispatch sent out an Attempt to Locate (ATL) for a white Pontiac G6 swerving, flashing their lights, and almost hitting a guard rail.
The complainant stated he had been following the vehicle on US-40 since Vernal and watched the Pontiac leave its lane 8-10 times.
The complainant gave a license plate number that returned to a male subject out of Magna, Utah.
Trooper Dodd, who was in Roosevelt, spotted the Pontiac and initiated a traffic stop.
Trooper Ryan arrived at the scene and saw a single male occupant sitting in the driver's seat. The male identified himself by Utah driver's license as 40-year-old William Ray Wilson.
Trooper Ryan noticed a handgun on the passenger seat, and William stated the gun belonged to him and that he had it for protection.
He asked William what he had been doing, and William said he was visiting his family in Vernal.
The trooper observed William to be dressed in all blue. He had a blue plaid shirt, blue hat, and blue a bandanna hanging from his rearview mirror. Due to the trooper's training, he recognized this as possibly being affiliated with a gang.
William was asked if he had been drinking any alcohol, he said no. The trooper asked him if he had used any prescription or illegal drugs, to which William stated no.
During a search of the vehicle, the trooper found a THC disposable vape pen in the center console still in its original packaging, and three empty packages were also found.
Because of William’s driving pattern and the THC found, Trooper Ryan asked to perform field sobriety tests to ensure he was safe to drive. Tests were performed on the sidewalk.
At the end of the tests, the conclusion was William was too impaired to operate a motor vehicle and was placed under arrest for DUI, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
During a search incident to arrest of his person, a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine was located in Williams' right shorts pocket.
A small baggie with a white crystal substance was located in the same pocket. As the pipe was placed on the hood of the patrol vehicle, and as Trooper Ryan was pulling the baggie out of his pocket, William was repeating, "I am sorry, I'm so sorry." Trooper Ryan found a white vape pen in his shirt pocket that matched the marijuana pen found in the vehicle.
William was transported to the hospital, where he consented to a blood draw. William was advised of his Miranda Rights, and told the trooper he came to Vernal to buy and smoke meth, and he did this prior to driving.
William was booked into the Uintah County Jail for possession of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to operate within a single lane.
William Ray Wilson may post bail in the amount of $2,500.00.
