Vernal Police responded to the apartment complex at 1350 W 150 N to a domestic violence call.
When police arrived after several knocks on the door and no answer. A family member permitted the officers to enter the apartment.
While police were going through the residence, they found the victim lying on the floor in the bedroom alongside her two children.
Officer Candelas spoke with the victim and noticed that the left side of her face was swollen and partially red. The victim told the officer that her husband, 26-year-old Gregory Duran, was no longer at the apartment.
She mentioned that Gregory had left on foot and was no longer at the residence. She later said that he might be in the basement but was unsure.
Officer Candelas spoke to the neighbor, and she stated that the victim mentioned that Gregory kicked her in the face and made her bleed.
The officer received information that there was a closet in the basement where Gregory likes to hide and was probably in there.
Police went to the basement, announced themselves as law enforcement, and received no response.
Gregory was found lying on the floor in the boiler room and was given lawful commands to come out from where he was hiding.
Gregory was detained and asked what had happened.
Gregory mentioned that he and his wife had been arguing for a long time now and that he had hit her, but only in the past.
Officer Candelas asked Greory how the victim began to bleed. He stated that he was not sure and then continued to show the officer his hand, which was later determined to be broken.
He then said it had happened the day prior and that he caused the damage to himself.
The officer asked Gregory how his right foot had gotten scraped, and he told the officer that he was trying to get away from his wife and was unsure how it had happened.
Gregory was then asked if his wife had hit him, and he said she did not strike him, but they have been involved in several other domestic incidents in the past.
While Officer Candelas spoke with both the victim and Gregory, he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from both of them.
Gregory was placed under arrest and booked into the Uintah County Jail.
Gregory Duran may post bail in the amount of $3,380.00.
