Vernal, Ut.-On 5/19/23, Officer Ross met with 39-year-old Stephanie Ann Mortensen, who stated she had a verbal dispute with her husband. Stephanie stated nothing physical occurred at this time, and it was an argument over a vehicle.
The officer spoke to Stephanie's husband, and he stated the altercation started over the vehicle. He stated Stephanie woke him up, and the argument continued outside, where she slapped him around eight times before she grabbed him by the throat with her right hand, leaving several small lacerations on his neck. He had some red spots under both eyes and on the bridge of his nose.
Stephanie said she grabbed her husband by the throat with a tight grip and admitted to drinking alcohol. Her words were slurred, and she was speaking slowly.
Stephanie was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
While at the jail, Stephanie was advised of her Miranda rights, and she stated she recalled strangling her husband twice.
