An Intoxicated Female Heard Yelling From Inside A Residence With Her 3-Year-old Child

| Vernal, Ut. | May 1st, 2024 |

Vernal City Police were informed of an intoxicated female at 100 North 1350 West. It was reported the female was with her 3-year-old child in one of the rooms.

When Officer Maughan arrived, he was met by a witness who stated that they could smell the odor of alcohol when the female was at the door, and she could hear yelling coming from inside.

The officer spoke with the female, who was identified as 35-year-old Maimie Louise Cornpeach, who at first wouldn't answer the door when told that the police were there. When the door opened, Maimie was sitting on the floor, crying, asking why the officer was there.

Officer Maughan explained to Maimie several times why he was there because she kept forgetting. When asked how much she had to drink, she wouldn't answer but would only say, "Go to another person," and refused to answer any questions. Maimie kept talking in circles, not being able to maintain a conversation.

Maimie was placed into handcuffs, and while escorting her to the patrol vehicle, the officers had to help Maimie down the stairs as she was not able to maintain her balance.

Officer Nielsen transported her to the hospital for a medical clearance. While at the hospital, Maimie told Officer Maughan that she had bought another individual alcohol, and that's who he should be arresting. The hospital staff informed the officers that Maimie's blood alcohol level was at 0.281.

It was determined there was probable cause to arrest Maimie Cornpeach for the following charges: Unlawful Purchase or Consumption of Alcohol by an Interdicted Person; this was due to Maimie being under the influence of alcohol and admitting to buying alcohol.

Intoxication: this was due to Maimie being intoxicated to the point that she was unable to maintain her balance and had to be helped down the stairs. Maimie was transported to the Uintah County Jail and booked on the charges.

All the articles that come from are from the affidavits & probable cause reports that the officers write. If you would like you can get a copy of the report from the website below. It does cost money to open every document you want to read.
