On 10/7/24, at around 7:54 pm, Central Dispatch received a call about a missing person, identified as 60-year-old Kimberly Hyde, who was missing from her home on Lagoon Street in Roosevelt, Utah.
Kimberly and her vehicle were reported missing. Her husband and the Roosevelt City Police Department reported this, and they responded and initiated the investigation.
On 10/8/24, at around 11:36 am, Kimberly's vehicle was found at 750 South 500 East in Vernal, Utah, approximately 38 miles from her home.
Detective Collom and other investigators arrived on the scene, and the street and the vehicle were cordoned off and turned into a crime scene.
Detective Collom looked through the windows of Kimberly's car. The back seat was filled with items that Kimberly's husband reported missing from their home. The items seemed to be contoured in a way that indicated a body may be underneath them.
Further inspection showed what appeared to be part of the victim's clothing underneath these items, and eventually, hair and blood could be seen. It was also found on the ground outside was blood dripping out of the car, pooling up where the hair and blood were inside the car.
A search warrant was approved to search Kimberly's vehicle, and during the search, a deceased female was located in the back seat underneath the stolen items. There were signs of physical trauma, including blood and lacerating injuries to her neck. The victim was bound on multiple points of her body that would have restricted her from moving while she was alive.
The deceased female was identified as Kimberly Hyde, who was last seen alive on 10/7/24 at around 3:00 pm in Roosevelt, Ut. Kimberly's body was then taken to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
Detective Collom attended the autopsy and spoke with the examining doctor, who found apparent blunt-force trauma to the victim's head and face. The doctor also found at least 8 superficial stab wounds to the victim.
Located on the victim’s neck were 3 larger sharp instrument wounds. These wounds were much larger and deeper than the other wounds. These wounds appeared to show more manipulation in a sawing or side to side motion of the weapon and appeared to inflict as much damage as possible to ensure the death of the victim.
Indicating the victim bled out slowly from her wounds.
A task force was created with multiple agencies in the Uintah Basin. The investigators collected evidence to establish a timeline of Kimberly's movements between the time of her disappearance and the time of her being found deceased inside her car.
On 10/10/24, Officers interviewed a witness who said he had been talking with Henry Resuera's (Suspect) son. The son stated he had to drive his father, Henry, to the airport for a family emergency. License readers (LPRs) identified the Dodge Journey belonging to Henry passing the Heber City Port of Entry on 10/9/24 at 1:38 am and again on 10/9/24 at 3:59 am.
The Dodge Journey was then seen on LPRs in Roosevelt on 10/9/24 at 5:27 am. This confirms that the son could have driven his father to the airport.
When interviewing Henry's wife and son, they admitted that Henry disclosed to them that he had killed Kimberly Hyde. They were both able to provide details of Kimberly's death that had not been made publicly available.
This included Kimberly's injuries and the way she was tied up. Henry's wife and son expressed fear of Henry, citing prior unreported domestic violence.
The son stated that on 10/7/24, Henry told him to meet him in Vernal to pick him up. The son didn't know the reason for this at the time, so he drove the family's Dodge Journey to Vernal to meet Henry.
The son stated he met Henry on Hwy 40 in Naples and saw Kimberly's car being driven by a person he recognized as his father, Henry Resuera. The son said his father was wearing a ball cap, a face mask, and gloves.
The son stated he still didn't know what was going on but followed Henry to the location at 750 South 500 East in Vernal, where they left Kimberly's car. The son said when he was able to talk to his father in person during the drive, Henry told him that he killed Kimberly. The son was able to identify the area of her wounds as well as how some of her bindings were situated.
The son said this was based on information Henry had told him, and he hadn't seen Kimberly that day.
The son said that after they had dropped off Kimberly's car, they drove back to Roosevelt and made several stops on the way so Henry could throw items out of the car. Investigators went back to these locations and found the items corroborating the son’s statement.
The son stated he later took Henry to the Salt Lake City airport, where he flew to the Philippines, where he is originally from.
Henry and his family live next door to the Hyde family and are family friends. Henry has been in the Hyde home on many occasions.
On video surveillance, Henry is seen heading toward the Hyde residence just before Kimberly gets home from Vernal. In this video, Henry is seen carrying a bag and wearing a hat.
Henry's wife is with Kimberly, and he knows when Kimberly will return home.
The night after Kimberly's car was found in Vernal, a press release was issued about the car. Later that night, Henry buys a ticket to the Philippines and boards a plane in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Detective Collom has requested an arrest warrant for Henry Cito Piana Resuera on charges of Aggravated Homicide and Aggravated Kidnapping of Kimberly Hyde.
