Police responded to a home burglary where the front window of the residence was broken by a rock and had been opened. The suspect gained entry to the home and took the victim's gun, that was hidden in an ammo can on the top shelf of a closet.
There was a red-brown stain, which appeared to be blood on the broken glass as well as on the wall in the upstairs bedroom.
The victim stated that her ex-boyfriend, 29-year-old Austin Clay Thompson, would have been the one who burglarized her home since he was the only one who knew where the firearm was.
Austin has also been texting the victim, asking for the gift he had given her. Once he removed his items, the victim had the locks to the house changed, so Austin couldn't access the residence.
The victim stated that the only thing missing from the home was a black 9mm handgun. The victim told Officer Candelas that Austin drove a Nissan Altima and was currently living with his parents and that she was not at home from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
Officer Candelas drove to the address provided, where a Nissan Altima was parked in front of the residence. After a records check, the registered owner returned to Austin's Father.
While the officer was speaking with Austin, he noticed a bright red cut on his right hand and a small cut on his left hand.
When Austin was asked how he got the cuts on his hands, he said he just got them from cutting sausage. Austin was asked if he knew where the victim kept her gun, and he said that the 9mm was kept on top of the pantry inside of an ammo can. Austin then mentioned that he had gone to his sister's house, across from the victim, around 5:00 pm.
Austin admitted to interviewers that he broke the window to gain entry to the residence. He then went into the victim's bedroom and stole her jewelry. He further admitted to taking the 9mm and then hiding it in an easement behind his parent's property.
Officer Candelas, Cpl. Randall and Detective Collom found the ammo can that contained jewelry, 9mm, and other miscellaneous items.
