Vernal Police responded to a call to an accident in the parking lot of the Maverik gas station at 1740 West US-40. When police arrived, they found 38-year-old Natasha Tetonia Cornpeach sitting in her driver's seat with the engine running.
Natasha had backed out of a parking spot, hit a parked Ford F150, and dragged the Ford out of its parking space because her Dodge's hitch got stuck to the Ford's grill.
Officer Escobedo gathered information pertaining to the accident and discovered Natasha’s driver’s license was revoked due to a prior alcohol offense.
The officer asked Natasha to exit the vehicle and noticed a brown bottle on the floorboard beside the driver's seat. It was an unopened bottle of Seagram's 7 Whiskey. Natasha pointed out two other unopened bottles of alcohol, which were called Beatbox. Also found in the vehicle was a THC vape pen.
Due to the indicators of the influence of alcohol, Officer Escobedo asked Natasha if she'd be willing to do FST's (Field Sobriety Tests) to which she consented. Natasha stated she had issues with her hands as well due to neuropathy. When Sergeant Watt asked about this issue, Natasha stated, It affects my feet too because I had alcohol too. Natasha became fixated on Sergeant Watt and became confrontational.
Natasha stated I have the whole neuropathy of the body of alcohol.
Officer Escobedo continued to the next test, the ABC test. As he began giving the instructions, Natasha stated she didn't know the English alphabet. He then gave her a portable breath test, which came back with the following results: 0.217 BrAC (Breath Alcohol Content).
Natasha was arrested, secured in the back of Officer Escobedo's patrol vehicle, and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
At the jail, Officer Escobrdo advised Natasha of her rights per Miranda and conducted an interview. He asked her what date it was and she answered, October 5th.
When asked about alcohol consumption, Natasha disclosed that she drank two cans of Michelob Ultra while at the Maverik gas station. She then told the officer she had driven her vehicle from the Mountain America Credit Union across the highway to the Maverik gas station.
Officer Escobedo asked Natasha if she was under the influence when she did this, and she replied, "Just, um, two drinks, yes."
A criminal history check was conducted on Natasha Cornpeach, and it was discovered she had a prior felony conviction for Driving Under the Influence, enhancing this current offense to a Third Degree Felony, and that she was an interdicted person, making it unlawful for her to purchase or be in possession of alcohol.
Natasha Cornpeach was booked into the Uintah County Jail on the following charges:
Driving Under the Influence with a Prior Felony Conviction
Driving on a Revoked License
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Unlawful Purchase by an Interdicted Person
