Vernal, Ut.- On 2/27/23, Officer White responded to a report of shoplifting at Walmart. The complainant working in asset protection, informed Dispatch they had the suspect in their office.
When the Officer arrived at the store, he met with the asset protection and the suspect in their office. They showed the Officer video surveillance of the incident. The Officer saw the suspect approach a self-checkout and watched him skip-scan items.
An employee on the floor was watching the suspect skip-scan and had notified her supervisor, who notified asset protection. Asset protection made contact with the suspect after he had passed all points of sale and passed the security checkpoint.
While in the asset protection office, they provided the Officer with the suspect's identification. Officer White conducted a records check through central Dispatch and identified the suspect as 32-year-old Kasey Lynn Atwood.
Kasey stated he had been shopping and decided to steal, and his greed had gotten the best of him, and he continued to grab more and more items.
Kasey had on large coveralls, and while taking them off, some small metal rings fell out of his pockets. Atwood stated he had stolen those as well.
While Officer White was searching Kasey, there were multiple other items found in his pockets that he admitted he had stolen.
The total value of items Kasey had stolen was $680, and a record search through Dispatch discovered he had been convicted of theft twice within the last seven years.
Kasey Atwood was arrested and transported to the Uintah County Jail for theft.
