8/17/23

Vernal, Ut.- On 8/14/23, Deputy Lyman was dispatched to 362 East 1220 South Apartments of a report that a male subject had been involved in a physical altercation. It was reported the male was threatening to cut himself with a knife.

Upon Deputy Lyman's arrival, he knocked on the door, and 23-year-old Emerson Boyde Checora answered the door and stepped outside to speak with the Deputy. While speaking with Emerson, his girlfriend came outside. Emerson was taken to the side of the residence to speak while Sgt. Hill talked to his girlfriend.

While speaking with Emerson, he stated that he and his girlfriend had been arguing about breaking up and were supposed to have gone to Salt Lake. He stated during the argument that it never got physical. They were just in a disagreement.

While Sgt. Hill spoke to the female, she stated that during the argument, Emerson grabbed her and threw her to the floor after he had pushed her several times. The Officer didn't think the victim's story seemed complete at this time.

Due to Emerson having warrants and throwing the victim to the ground, he was arrested and transported to the Uintah County Jail. After he had been transported, the victim began to speak more freely.

The Officers learned that Emerson grabbed the victim's hair and threw her to the ground. He then choked her and threw her up against the glass. Emerson became upset about a child crying.

Emerson immediately went upstairs to argue and yelled at the victim. He grabbed the victim, threw her against the glass, and then onto the floor. Emerson began choking her and asking her if she wanted to die. The victim stated she couldn't breathe while being choked.

While on the floor, Emerson made a fist with both hands and started hitting the victim with two children inside the residence.

Emerson was booked into the Uintah County Jail on aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, and his warrants.
