Vernal man arrested for allegedly attempting to stab his sister

Vernal, Utah (5/1/26)—A woman and her sister who live in the Happy Homes subdivision have been receiving threats from their brother, who also resides there.

The sisters, one of whom is currently pregnant, had recently moved into the residence and told police that they had been threatened with bodily harm from 19-year-old Darrell Edward Florentino Peralez.

While talking with the police, she informed them there was a history of threatening behavior and violence by Darrell toward his family, including a prior incident in which Darrell had allegedly attempted to stab her.

Because of Darrell's volatile behavior and concern for her sister's well-being and the pending arrival of the child, the complainant had notified Darrell via text message that she wanted him to find another place to live.

She also stated that Darrell became angry in response and sent a text message threatening that he was going to hurt her and that she would be sorry. When the complainant directly asked Darrell by text if he was threatening to kill her, Darrell responded that his intentions were not to kill her, but to do something worse.

The complainant further told police that she contacted her father to inform him of the situation. Their father told the complainant that Darrell had called him after the text exchange and was upset. During that phone call, Darrell told his father that he was going to kill his sisters.

The deputy contacted their father, and he confirmed that during his phone conversation with Darrell, he made the statements expressing his intent to kill his sister's.

Darrell Florentino-Peralez was found and interviewed. Darrell admitted he had been angry with his sisters and acknowledged that the text messages he sent would have been perceived as threatening. He further admitted that during his phone conversation with his father, he had stated that he wanted to kill his sisters.

By Darrell's own admissions, corroborated by the statements of the complainant, her sister, and the father, it was established that Darrell intentionally communicated threats that placed or were intended to place his sisters in reasonable fear of bodily injury.

Darrell was placed under arrest and transported to the Uintah County Jail, where he was booked on two counts of Threat of Violence (Domestic Violence).
