Two Underage Males Use Fake Id’s To Gain Access To A Local Bar

By Travis Uresk 10/21/23

Vernal, Utah, 10/14/23 (1nationjustice) — Deputy Fairey responded to the Gateway Saloon to an anonymous tip regarding the possession of forged identification cards.

The information received from the complainant indicated that two underage males were in possession of a fake driver's license that had been used to gain entrance to the bar. The ID cards included a functional barcode that allowed them to be scanned by the bar staff.

The tipster provided a description, the name of one of the subjects, and a vehicle description.

A bar check was conducted at the Gateway Saloon, with the subject's vehicle being located in the parking lot. The staff confirmed that a bar tab had been opened in the subject's name. Bar staff showed me a scan of the identification card that had been presented. The information from the scan was found to be fraudulent and returned that the license number was fictitious.

A records check of Chad Scott Leatham's personal information showed a birthdate of 6/2/2003, showing him to be 20 years of age. The name of Chad Leatham showed a scan of the identification card that had been presented. The information from the scan listed Chad's date of birth as 6/2/2002. A check of the license number returned that the number was fictitious.

The Bar staff was asked if the subject was with another person and provided the name of Tyzack Wilford Pace as the possible roommate. The driver's license scan showed a date of birth as 4/7/2000, indicating that Tyzack was age 23. A check of the state database returned that Tyzack's birthdate was actually 4/7/2003 (age 20). The driver's license number shown on the bar scan was different than that of Tyzack's actual license and was found to be fictitious.

Bar staff was provided with a photo and description of Tyzack and Chad, who were located inside the establishment. Both were asked for their identification and provided a forged driver's license listing their date of birth as 4/7/2000. Tyzack admitted that the driver's license was "fake" and said he did not have his authentic Utah license with him. Chad stated that he was in possession of a fake driver's license, which he also provided.

Chad told Deputy Fairey that he had purchased the fraudulent driver's license approximately 1 month prior from a "Chinese website." Chad stated that he had provided personal information and a photo to the card maker and had paid roughly $100 for the card. Chad admitted that he had been consuming alcohol at the bar and consented to provide a breath sample to my portable breath test device. The test results showed positive for the presence of alcohol in Chad's breath at a .036 BrAC.

Chad Leatham was subsequently transported to the Uintah County Jail and booked on the following charge(s): Felony 3 possession of a fictitious identification card (driver's license), Utah 53-3-810(4)(A); Misdemeanor B unlawful consumption of alcohol by an adult minor, Utah 32B-4-409; and Illegal Possession of Tobacco, Utah 76-10-105, which is an infraction.
