Sex offender fails to update his information on the Child Abuse Registry.

Vernal, Utah (4/23/26)— 38-year-old Dustin Joseph Nielson is currently on parole with AP&P and is also required to register with the Child Abuse Registry due to a conviction on September 24, 2008.
Nielson was granted parole by the Utah Board of Pardons on December 16, 2025. According to the Utah Sex Kidnap and Child Abuse Registry, Nielson failed to update the registry during his birth month of December 2025. Nielson is currently on parole for 9 prior felony offenses.
On January 9, 2026, Nielson reported to the Vernal Adult Probation and Parole Office. During his check-in, the registry was updated with all factual information. Agent Ercanbrack discussed the registry guidelines with Nielson, and he signed the registry paperwork, was given a copy, and was instructed to review the back pages to ensure compliance with all requirements of the Sex Kidnap and Child Abuse Registry.
On March 24, 2026, Mr. Nielson reported to Adult Probation and Parole and updated his tattoos on the Utah Sex Kidnap and Child Abuse Registry. He signed a copy of the registry packet.
On April 6, 2026, Nielson sent a text message to Agent Ercanbrack with a picture of a vehicle and stated: "New Car, 2021 Hyundai Kona."
On April 21, 2026, Nielson missed his scheduled office appointment with AP&P, and his parole officer conducted a registry check and observed that the newly purchased vehicle had not been updated on the Utah Sex Kidnap and Child Abuse Registry. Nielson failed to update his vehicle information within three business days of the change, as required by the registry.
On April 22, 2026, agents went to Nielson's residence, which was on record, but upon speaking with the homeowners, it was discovered that Nielson no longer lived at the residence because he was evicted due to drug use.
It was reported that Nielson was removed from the residence on April 17, 2026, and failed to update the Sex Offender Registry within three business days of his change in primary residence.
On April 23, 2026, AP&P conducted an employment verification of Nielsen's reported place of employment. The manager stated that Nielson was terminated on April 16, 2026, due to failing to show up for work. He also failed to update his employment status on the Sex Offender Registry.
Agent Ercanbrack apprehended Dustin Nielson at the AP&P office in Vernal, Utah. He was booked into the Uintah County Jail on three felony charges for failing to update his information within three business days.
