FBI Arrests Suspect for CSAM Found on Digital Devices

Duchesne County (6/16/26)—The FBI executed a federal search warrant at the residence of 51-year-old Russell Dean Steinke, based on information suggesting he had exchanged Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on the dark web.
Russell is already listed on the sex offender registry due to a felony conviction for sexual exploitation of a child while residing in Wyoming. During the search, several electronic devices were confiscated, including his cellphone.
Upon examining the contents of Russell's cellphone, officials found multiple social media apps that require users to be over 17 years old to access.
According to Detective Hunter's expertise, these apps are often utilized for sharing explicit images, including CSAM. Also found on the cellphone was a Gmail address and a number linked to the device.
The detective checked Russell's sex offender registry file, noting that it did not include any social media accounts, email addresses, or phone numbers.
After his arrest, Russell was questioned by FBI agents at the Sheriff's Office. During the interrogation, he admitted to possessing CSAM as recently as three days prior. The FBI has indicated that federal charges are expected to be filed within the week.
Russell has been booked into the Duchesne County Jail, facing 13 counts of providing false or incomplete information on his sex offender registry.
Currently on the registry for a felony conviction related to child exploitation, he has confessed to the recent allegations of possessing CSAM and was found visiting several explicit online platforms commonly associated with such material. He is regarded as a significant risk to children and the community.
