Scam: A Uintah County Woman Scammed Out Of $200

On 7/10/24, the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office received a fraud report from a detective at the Lehi Police Department.
The report stated that the detective talked to the complainant from the Vernal area about an internet fraud in the Costco parking lot in Lehi, Utah.
The complainant went to the Lehi Police Department and reported the fraud on 7/2/24. She told the Lehi police that she lived in Vernal and had come to Lehi to purchase a Glock 19 handgun she found on Utah Gun Exchange.
The woman spoke to the owner of the gun, 26-year-old Miguel Angel Carrasco-Soto, over the phone and agreed to sell the victim the Glock for the amount of $500.
The victim stated Miguel wanted $200 upfront before he would remove the pistol from the website and hold it for her.
On the morning of July 2nd, the victim made a $200 Venmo transfer to Miguel and then was going to meet with him at Costco in Lehi to complete the transaction and take possession of the gun.
The female drove to Lehi and waited for Miguel to show up. When he didn't show up, she texted him a few times asking where he was, but she received no response. The victim stated that Miguel wouldn't answer her text and never arrived with the pistol.
Corporal S. LeFever, with the Lehi PD, checked Miguel's phone number, the one the victim had been using to contact him. Through the clear system, the number returned to Miguel Carrasco-Soto.
Officer Blackburn with the Uintah County Sheriff's Office has been making several attempts to contact Miguel, but no contact has been made.
