At around 1:13 AM this morning, Vernal Police Officers were dispatched to Adams and Body and Paint regarding a burglary.
Upon arrival, Officer Murray noticed that the east-facing glass door had been shattered, with glass scattered on the ground. Further investigation revealed that multiple doors, including the north side and rear east side doors, were unlocked, and the back door was propped open.
During a search of the premises, 50-year-old George William Merrell was found asleep in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked on the lot.
George admitted that he might have broken the glass door, potentially using a sledgehammer. A search of the vehicle revealed a sledgehammer in the bed of George's truck covered in glass specks consistent with the shattered glass door.
When asked why he had broken into the building, George stated he was looking for a battery charger to charge his truck and some water.
Based on the evidence, George was placed under arrest and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
