Female Loses Her Temper With Her Boyfriend's 18-Year-Old Down Syndrome Son

By Travis Uresk 10/20/23

Roosevelt, Utah, 10/7/23 (1nationjustice) — Around 6:30 pm, Officer Christensen responded to an active domestic violence at the apartments at 580 East 600 North in Roosevelt. The complainant stated his girlfriend, 34-year-old Cherokee Barney, hit his 18-year-old Down Syndrome son on the arm.

When the Officers arrived and knocked on the door, they could hear yelling, and when the boyfriend opened the door, Cherokee was acting hysterical and wanted to leave the apartment. Officer Christensen escorted Cherokee from the apartment and sat her on the grass.

Once Cherokee calmed down and was able to tell the Officers what had happened. Cherokee stated her boyfriend's son had been rude to her all day. She stated the son kept yelling at her all day, being rude, calling her fat and lazy, and saying she didn't do anything.

Cherokee said she reached her breaking point and hit the son on the arm, and added she couldn't stay at the apartment anymore and if she had to go to jail, so be it.

Officer Christensen had the boyfriend fill out a statement, and he said Cherokee hit his son on the shoulder and the chest. Cherokee then started to destroy things inside the apartment. There was a broken glass vase that she slammed on the floor. The boyfriend stated that Cherokee has a problem with becoming violent.

Officer Christensen charged Cherokee with abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult (DV) because the son has Down Syndrome, and Cherokee hit him on the arm and chest. Christensen charged Cherokee with criminal mischief (DV) because of the vase Cherokee threw on the groundbreaking and her throwing everything around in the residence during the altercation.
