Roosevelt City Police Officer Reed responded to a welfare check after employees at Davis Food and Drug reported seeing a woman slouched over, asleep in a gray car in their parking lot.

The officer arrived and approached the vehicle to see a woman leaning over, sweating and asleep.

The door of the vehicle was cracked open, so Officer Reed opened the door and shook the female to wake her up.

The female, later identified as 34-year-old Karisa K. Dorcas, started to wake up slowly. Officer Reed asked if she was alright, and she stated that she was and if she needed medical attention but denied needing it.

Karisa stated that she arrived at Davis about 5 minutes before they opened to get ice. Officer Reed asked her if she knew what time it was, and she looked at her watch to get the time. He informed her that she had been in the parking lot for almost 5 hours now and never made it into the store to buy ice.

Karisa was asked if she would step out of the vehicle so the officer could run some tests to ensure she was okay to drive. She stated that she was to drive but was just tired. Karisa hesitated but got out of the vehicle.

Karisa did fail two out of the three tests but stated that she has problems with her legs, which might hinder her performance during the test. However, Karisa did fail the eye test.

Later, Karisa did admit that she had used meth recently.

Officer Reed had his K9 Tipps perform a free air sniff around the vehicle, and Tipps gave a positive indication of Karisa's vehicle. During the search, meth was located in the driver-side door of the car.

Karisa was asked if she had anything else on her person, and she said she had a syringe in her pocket.

Karisa was arrested for driving under the influence, 1st offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
