A female contacted the Roosevelt Police Department, saying she had lost her debit card at Arby's in Roosevelt.
The female stated that several transactions were on her lost card, and one had been declined.
The first two transactions were made on 06/12/2024 at Family Dollar for $57.86 and $63.89. The following transaction took place at Maverick for $19.74 on 06/12/2024. Another transaction was made at the State Liquor Store in Roosevelt for $82.68 on 06/12/2024. The declined transaction was attempted at Smoke Mania on 06/12/2024 for $327.06, all in Roosevelt City.
Detective Bellon went to these locations and obtained security footage at the time of the transactions. Each of the footage he obtained showed the same man. In the security video from the liquor store, the detective could hear the man at the counter say the total that he paid with the card for the liquor he purchased: $82.68.
On 06/26/2024, Detective Bellon posted the suspect's photos online, and the community responded with multiple calls identifying the man as 53-year-old Samuel Ray Nielsen. One of the callers was the victim, who recognized Sam as the Arby's employee on 06/12/2024.
On 06/27/2024, Samuel Nielsen was arrested on the charges, including four counts of unlawful acquisition of a financial card, a third-degree felony, and four counts of unlawful use of a financial card under $500, a class B misdemeanor.
The court ordered that Samuel Ray Nielsen be held without bail.
