Cal-Ranch called 9-1-1 to report a retail theft. A couple had possibly stolen some items from the store and then left the area. The witness to the incident briefly described the couple and informed dispatch that the couple was now at Sportsman's Warehouse.
Officer Elmer arrived at Cal-Ranch and met with a manager who pulled up video footage of the two suspects. During the video footage, a male, who was later identified as 28-year-old Dylan Lane McCrorey, was in the chainsaw aisle.
Dylan grabbed a chainsaw and a bottle of 2-cycle oil and began walking around the store. As he was walking around, the officer observed Dylan turn away from the camera, making motions similar to putting items into his pockets.
As Dylan walked down the next aisle, he no longer had the two items in his hands. Dylan and the female walked to the front of the store, stood by the front door watching the cashiers, and then walked out of the store, setting off the alarm.
After gathering this information, assisting officers found and spoke with Dylan at Sportsman's Warehouse. While the officers were speaking with the suspect, he gave them a false name and date of birth that dispatch couldn't find any information on.
The assisting officers then asked the female subject who he was with, along with another male subject they got a ride from. They stated his first name was Dylan. After speaking with the other subjects, the assisting officers talked with Dylan and placed him under arrest for failing to identify himself and providing a false name and date of birth.
After Dylan was placed under arrest, he was informed of his Miranda rights, after which Dylan gave deputies his real name and date of birth. Assisting officers then ran Dylan's information through dispatch again and were informed that he had multiple active warrants for his arrest.
The stolen items were located in Dylan’s vehicle, and he admitted to stealing them. The assisting officers gathered the seized items valued at $30.98. Dylan was then transported to the Uintah County Jail. Where he was booked on the active statewide warrants, where a criminal history check on Dylan was ran through dispatch. Dispatch then informed Officer Elmer that Dylan had multiple convictions for theft in Utah within the last ten years, along with other convictions in adjacent states.
Dylan was then charged with Retail theft, a felony 3, for knowingly taking possession of the merchandise and leaving the store past the point of sale without paying for it. While at the jail, Dylan also admitted that the name and date of birth he gave officers were his brother's.
He was also charged with falsely identifying himself with the intent to portray.
Dylan McCrorey is being held without bail.
