The UHP was dispatched to a call involving two vehicles in a road rage incident where a pickup ran into the back of a blue SUV, and the truck sped past the SUV, almost hitting the driver of the SUV.
Trooper Englebright located the described vehicles near milepost 111 on US-40. The white truck was in the number 1 lane, and the SUV was passing the truck in the turning lane at a high rate of speed, almost crashing into the pickup.
The trooper turned around and stopped both vehicles as another trooper arrived at the scene of the traffic stop.
The driver of the Blue SUV, later identified as 77-year-old Patrick Arthur Shea, told Trooper Englebright he had passed the white truck, and then the truck hit him from behind. When the trooper tried to ask further questions, Patrick stated that he had pulled over, and the trooper was suddenly there.
Considering the two vehicles had driven almost five miles from where the accident first occurred and the aggressive driving the trooper witnessed, the trooper believed there were parts of his story he was purposely left out.
The driver of the truck stated that they were traveling east on US-40 when the SUV passed them on a double yellow line and then cut them off. Once in Myton, the SUV passed the truck again in a no-passing zone and "brake checked" them. The truck hit the rear of the SUV, and both vehicles pulled off to the side of the road. The SUV then "brake checked" the pickup again, causing the truck to hit the rear of the SUV once more.
Once stopped, Patrick got out of the SUV, walked toward the truck, and attempted to assault both the driver and the passenger of the pickup. The driver then pulled in front of the SUV. The driver stated he continued to drive East on US-40 with the SUV in pursuit until the trooper pulled them over.
Trooper Englebright called another witness, who stated that she had seen the entire incident from her house in Myton. The female stated that she saw a white truck hit a blue SUV from behind.
She witnessed both vehicles stop on the side of the road, and the driver of the SUV got out and walked toward the white truck. When he got to the truck, it sped past the man, almost running him over, pulled in front of the Subaru, backed into the front of the SUV, and then sped off. Then, the Subaru sped off after the truck.
After the investigation, Patrick and 28-year-old Gregory James Budshun were arrested and transported to the Duchesne County Jail, and their vehicles were impounded.
