Sex offender fails to register his Facebook account, and several others

Duchesne County (4/22/26)—Around the beginning of April of this year, Detective Hunter received some information that an individual had an online Facebook account that was not listed on his registry.
The detective had a copy of 68-year-old Rickey Lee Gayler's registry, which showed he had no social media, email, or other internet services listed. Detective Hunter looked Ricky up on Facebook and found 2 accounts under his name. The detective was also able to run Ricky's telephone number and found a Snapchat and a WhatsApp account, both under Ricky's name.
On April 22, 2026, Detectives with the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office went to Ricky's residence, explained their visit, and took Ricky into custody. Ricky is currently on parole for a conviction of Sodomy of a Child.
Detective Hunter spoke with William's parole officer, who requested William's phone and any other electronic devices in his possession, and for them to be searched for evidence of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Ricky owned a cellphone and a laptop computer at the time of his arrest.
Ricky was transported to the Duchesne County Jail, where he agreed to be interviewed, was read his Miranda Rights, and signed a Miranda waiver before the interview. Ricky disclosed during the interview that he had multiple accounts and also stated that he had a Yahoo email account.
His reason for not listing the accounts on his registry was that he did not fully read his sex offender registry paperwork, and was unaware he had to register those accounts. William did admit he had signed the paperwork and that just a few months prior, he knew to come in and update his registry with a new vehicle he had purchased.
After the interview, Detective Hunter searched Ricky's cellphone. As he searched the phone, he located an additional Gmail account, TikTok account, Telegram account, in addition to the 2 Facebook accounts, Snapchat account, WhatsApp account, and Yahoo email previously located.
Ricky was found to have 8 online accounts that were not listed on his registry. Due to the original charge that he was put on the registry for being a 1st Degree Felony, Ricky is being charged with 8 counts of Failing to register or providing false or incomplete information on his sex offender registry. These counts will be 3rd Degree felonies.
