Police removed a female who was arguing with hospital staff

12/30/23

Vernal, Ut. On 12/17/23, police were dispatched to a disorderly incident at the Ashley Regional Medical Center (ARMC) at 150 West 100 North. Call notes stated an individual was arguing with staff and was being told to leave.

Law enforcement officers arrived on scene and met the 30-year-old female, Ashton Jane Swett, outside by the emergency room doors. Ashton was talking with Deputy O'Donnal, and her voice was loud. Officer McCurdy approached and told her to quit screaming.

Ashton stood there with her arms up in the air and said if she put them down, she would hemorrhage and claimed she needed a brace for her shoulder. Ashton was discharged from ARMC but now wanted to go to another hospital. She started making obscene comments about pulling her pants down to hemorrhage.

She continued after the officers told Ashton she was in public and to stop screaming.

Ashton was advised she was under arrest, and Officer McCurdy was placing her right hand in cuffs, but Ashton pulled her arm away. She tensed up and continued to resist, and eventually secured and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.

During this time, Ashton continued to yell and scream from the backseat of the officer's vehicle, causing an unreasonable amount of noise in a public place.

The ER Physician told Officer McCurdy that Ashton was medically discharged after being allowed to complete what he could accomplish.

Ashton was transported to the Uintah County Jail and booked in on the below charges.
