A Traffic Stop Turns Into A Foot Chase Across US-40 and Through The Cemetery

By Travis Uresk 10/30/23

Roosevelt, Ut.- On 10/21/23, around 11:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling West on US-40. Officer Christensen was pacing the vehicle at 50 mph in a 40 mph zone. The Officer initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over at 550 West US-40 in Roosevelt, Ut.

Officer Christensen walked up to the passenger side of the vehicle and explained to the driver why he stopped her because she was going 10 over the speed limit. At this time, the Officers recognized one of the backseat passengers as 31-year-old Shilo Ray Welborn.

Shilo has a no-bail warrant out of 8th District Court Duchesne. Officer Christensen walked over to the driver’s side back door, opened it, and told Shilo he was under arrest for his warrants.

Christensen grabbed Shilo by the wrist, he then pulled his arm away and started running Eastbound behind some buildings. Christensen ran after Shilo and told him to stop running or he would get tased.

Shilo didn't listen to the police yelling at him to stop running. He then ran across US-40 and ran through the cemetery. Another officer intercepted Shilo just South of the cemetery by a field.

An Officer had Shilo on the ground, and he attempted to get up and continued to resist arrest. Shilo was then fully escorted to the ground and was placed in handcuffs.

Upon searching where Shilo was lying, the police found a pipe with a green leafy substance consistent with Marijuana. Christensen also found a marijuana dab, tin foil, and a torch lighter.

Shilo was transported to the Duchesne County Jail to be booked in.

Shilo has a few priors for marijuana possession.
