At 3:30 in the morning, Uintah County Deputies responded to a report of a possible homicide in the Lapoint-Tridell area.
The caller, 45-year-old Antonio Martinez Tinsley, reported that his wife had been murdered and her body was in a ditch.
Antonio told dispatch that he had not injured his wife and that he didn’t know who had done it. Antonio then provided dispatch with the name of the alleged assailant and claimed to have witnessed the stabbing. He also mentioned that other individuals might be involved and potentially armed with a crossbow or pellet guns.
The initial location that had been provided to dispatch was in the Tridell area. Law enforcement units, along with medical personnel, arrived in the area and were unable to locate Antonio.
Dispatch was able to find Antonio's location at 6500 N 10,500 E near the Lapoint Park and updated the officers and EMS, who were several miles away. Assisting BIA officers then reported that they were in contact with Antonio.
While BIA officers were speaking with Antonio, he insisted that his wife was in a nearby ditch, and he could hear calling for help.
Officers thoroughly searched the area, including the ditch and nearby canal, but found no evidence of an assault or any kind of disturbance.
Antonio took the officers to a residence where he claimed the suspects lived. BIA officers knocked on the door and woke up the residents. They said they knew Tinsley but hadn't seen him in months and mentioned that Antonio used to live down the road but had been evicted.
During the investigation, it was noted that Antonio was wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet. He admitted to being on probation and to using methamphetamine within the past three days. Tinsley also mentioned that he had fallen and injured his head earlier in the day.
Despite deploying additional resources, including law enforcement drones and attempting to ping Tinsley's wife's cell phone, the officers were unable to locate any evidence supporting Antonio’s claims.
After several hours of searching, the officers suspended the search.
Later that morning, an assisting officer made contact with Antonio’s wife via phone. She confirmed that she was safe and had not been with Tinsley for several weeks. She stated that they were separated and suggested that Tinsley's report was likely due to him being under the influence of drugs.
Tinsley had been detained on a probation hold and transported to the Uintah County Jail for booking.
In addition to the probation hold, Antonio Tinsley was booked on the charge of Felony 2 emergency reporting abuse.
