Vernal Police Arrest A Man For A DUI In The McDonald’s Drive-Thru

On March 8th, 2026, shortly after 3 in the morning, Officer Nielsen received a call about a possible DUI in the McDonald's drive-thru.
It was reported that a male who was trying to order had a beer in his center console. It was also reported that the male was not making much sense when speaking, and that he was driving a red van.
When the officer arrived, he saw a red van parked in the drive-thru and pulled in behind the van with his overhead emergency lights on.
Officer Nielsen approached the driver's window, identified himself, and explained the reason he was there. The driver was identified as 20-year-old Camden Isaiah Escalante by his Utah ID card.
The officer could see that Camden's eyes were bloodshot and glossy, and could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle while speaking to the driver. During the conversation, the officer could see a box of alcoholic beverages next to the center console.
Both male passengers were asked to exit the vehicle. One male passenger was 15 years old.
When Camden got out of the vehicle, Officer Nielsen could still smell the odor of alcohol coming from his person. He asked Camden to submit to the Standard Field Sobriety Test, which he agreed to.
After conducting the SFST, Officer Nielsen determined that Camden Escalante was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Camden was willing to submit to a PBT, and the results showed a BrAC of 0.182. Dispatch conducted a local search and found that Camden's Utah driver's license was revoked, alcohol-restricted driver.
Camden was placed into handcuffs and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
While in jail, Camden willingly submitted to an Intoxilyzer test. Camden's Intoxilyzer results were .169 BrAC.
Dispatch conducted a criminal history check on Camden for previous DUI convictions, and it was found that he was convicted of a DUI in 2025.
Camden Escalante was booked into the Uintah County Jail for Driving Under the Influence 2nd Offense in 10 years, Driving Under the Influence with Passenger younger than 16 years old, both being class A Misdemeanors, Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, and Alcohol Restricted Driver, both class B Misdemeanors.
Camden was handed a copy of his citation, and it was explained to him. A tow truck took possession of the vehicle.
