Vernal man arrested for DUI when picking up a family member from jail, who was also arrested for a DUI

(Vernal, Ut. 2/28/2026) Deputy Elmer was asked to respond to the Uintah County Jail regarding a possible DUI involving a 42-year-old man identified as Milo Curtis McKinnon.
Milo was at the jail to pick up his daughter, who had been arrested earlier for a DUI.
When the deputy arrived at the jail, he met with Deputy Dieckmann, who reported the incident. Deputy Dieckmann informed Deputy Elmer that he could smell alcohol on Milo's breath while talking with him in the jail's lobby. Deputy Elmer was also told that Milo had driven his truck to the jail and left it running in the parking lot.
Milo admitted that he had driven his truck to the jail to pick up his daughter, who had been arrested earlier. While Deputy Elmer spoke with Milo, he could smell alcohol coming from his breath as well, and asked him if he had any alcohol to drink. Milo admitted to having some whiskey while he was home after work, and then got a call from his daughter to help bail her out. With this information, Deputy Elmer told Milo that he would conduct the standard field sobriety tests to ensure that he was safe to operate a motor vehicle.
After the sobriety test was concluded, it was determined that Milo was unable to operate a vehicle safely and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Milo was then placed into handcuffs and escorted into jail, where it was found that he had prior charges for impaired driving within the last 10 years, and he is also an alcohol restricted driver.
Milo was then charged with second offense DUI and charged for being an alcohol restricted driver. While inside the jail, Milo was given the required Baker time and then provided a breath sample that came back as 0.094 BAC.
Milo received a copy of his citation and of his BAC results. No further actions were taken.
