Uintah County man assaults his father while arguing with his mother

Travis Uresk

1/31/24

Vernal, Ut. (1/28/24) A Uintah Deputy responded to the Uintah Basin ER on a report of an assault on an elderly man by his son.

Deputy Jones met with the victim, who stated that his 60-year-old son, Michael Collier, was yelling at his mother, who is in a wheelchair when the victim stepped in to stop Michael from being in his mother's face by getting in between them.

Michael shoved his father with both arms so hard that he fell backward into the oven door, hitting the handle and breaking the glass. When falling, the victim grabbed Michael's shirt, which pulled Michael down on top of the victim. They wrestled around until the victim's wife yelled at Michael to stop and leave.

The victim's wife told Deputy Jones while at the hospital with her husband that Michael has anger issues and was arguing with her. She said something about calling the police, and that's when Michael bent down and got in her face, grabbed the lapels of her shirt, and told her if she called the police, she would regret it. That is when the victim stepped in and got pushed into the oven door.

Michael was found a few hours later and taken to the Uintah County Jail by Sgt Hill.

During the interview, Michael stated he was arguing with his dad while his mom was antagonizing and agitating him. So during the argument with his dad, he told his mom to shut up, but she wouldn't, so he leaned over, grabbed the wheelchair handles, and yelled in her face, "Shut the fuck up."

The victim grabbed Michael and, at this time, pushed him off, but his dad grabbed onto Michael's shirt. After the scuffle and his mother telling him to stop, Michael stated he helped his dad stand up.

Michael Collier was booked into the Uintah County Jail on a class b misdemeanor assault domestic violence.
