Two on house arrest get taken to jail after police find meth during a compliance check

(Duchesne County) On Thursday, February 26th, 2026, Deputy Richens arrived at a residence to conduct a compliance check on 49-year-old Tobias Rubio Lopez and 46-year-old Mariea Marie Hackford, who are currently on ankle monitor supervision with the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office.
When the deputy arrived, she asked Tobias if she would find anything illegal inside the residence. He stated that they should not find anything. When Deputy Richens went into the house, she found Mariea sitting on the couch. The deputy asked Mariea why she was at Lopez's residence.
Mariea told Deputy Richens that her attorney told her it would be acceptable. The deputy explained to Hackford that earlier that morning, she had messaged Deputy Richens asking if she could go to Lopez's residence, but the deputy advised her that she could not, as she was on house arrest. Both Lopez and Hackford stated they did not understand that they were prohibited from being together while on house arrest. Deputy Richens again explained that they were not allowed to associate with one another under the conditions of their pre-trial release.
Deputy Richens asked Hackford if she had used any drugs that morning or if she would find anything on her person. Hackford stated, No. The deputy had Hackford step outside, conducted a Terry frisk, and placed her under arrest for failing to comply with the terms of her pre-trial release, and placed her in the back of a patrol vehicle.
Deputy Richens told Lopez that a K9 officer would be searching his residence and asked him again if there was anything illegal inside, and again he said no.
The K9 was released inside the home searching for illegal drugs, and alerted to the couch and the area underneath the couch. During the search, deputies located a small bag containing a white crystalline substance behind the couch. Police also found a burnt piece of tinfoil with residue, and a small tooter was located under a blanket on top of the couch. An additional piece of burnt tinfoil with residue was located behind an Xbox gaming system.
Lopez and Hackford were transported to UBMC for medical clearance and transported to the Duchesne County Jail, where they were booked on new offenses.
The drugs were seized and submitted to the Sheriff's Office for testing, and returned presumptive positive results for methamphetamine. All evidence was properly packaged, logged, and secured in an evidence locker.
