While an agent with the Uintah Basin Narcotics Task Force was patrolling in northwest Duchesne County, a maroon Ford Expedition passed the agent.
The agent recognized the driver of the Ford as 65-year-old Marvin Lee Jones, who had a suspended driver’s license.
The Task Force Agent pulled onto the road, got behind Marvin, and initiated a traffic stop.
The reason for the traffic stop was explained, and the agent took Marvin's information and returned to his patrol vehicle.
A records check revealed Marvin had a suspended license and a hold for a statewide warrant out of West Valley City, Utah.
Marvin was told by the agent he had a warrant and had Marvin step out of the vehicle. The agent told Marvin his Expedition was being impounded because his driver's license was suspended, placing him in handcuffs.
Marvin was asked several times if anything was illegal inside his vehicle, and he said no.
Eventually, he provided the agent with two used meth pipes but said there were no drugs inside the vehicle.
As the agent began the search of the vehicle, in the middle of the back seat, on top of a sports bag, was a clear Ziploc baggie containing a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine.
Also located in the vehicle were several more items of drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, and several small Ziploc baggies that were used for distributing illegal narcotics.
The crystal substance weighed 31 grams.
Marvin was transported to the Duchesne County Jail.
