A Vernal City Police Officer was patrolling 300 West 100 North when she saw a male who matched the description of the individual she was looking for.
While speaking with the male, Officer Webb recognized that it was 43-year-old Coty John Porter, whom she had dealt with in the past.
Officer Webb conducted a warrant check on Coty and found that he had an active warrant for his arrest. Coty was informed of his warrant and stated he knew about it and had court on Tuesday, the 21st.
Coty was placed in handcuffs, and he told the officer that he had marijuana in his backpack. During the search of Coty’s backpack, marijuana bud suspected marijuana wax, THC vape pens, and other drug paraphernalia were found.
Once at the jail, Officer Webb asked Coty if he had anything on him that wasn't found during the initial search. He stated that he didn't. She had Coty read the jail-posted signs stating that it is a charge to bring drugs, weapons, etc. into a correctional facility.
The correction officers began their search of Coty's person, and a small baggie of white crystalline substance was found in his right jacket pocket. Due to Officer Webb's training and experience, she suspected the substance to be methamphetamine.
Officer Webb read Coty his Miranda Rights and asked what was in the baggie. He stated that he forgot it was in his pocket but said it was meth he was holding for a friend. He then stated he was going to meet up with his friend the next day to get paid for the meth.
Coty Porter was booked into the Uintah County Jail.
