At approximately 7:35 pm, dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from a female victim where she was heard repeatedly yelling at another subject to hand me the gun, to which a male voice yelled back, "No, I won't." The female started screaming, and the phone disconnected.
9-1-1 called the number back, but the female was not responding to the dispatcher. The female was heard again repeatedly begging to give her the gun and saying, “I’ll give you whatever you want, don't, don't, just hand it to me. Everything is fixable. The male replied, "No! You don't care about me!"
The male was then heard stating, let me see your phone, give me your phone. The female continued to beg for the male subject to put the gun away. The female was then heard saying No, I haven't called 9-1-1 The female continued to make statements of, "Please stop it," "Please don't do this," and "Just give it to me!" "what are you doing!" "Let's just talk!" "I need you to put the gun away!"
Responding law enforcement arrived during the dispatch updates and entered the home. Upon hearing the female screaming from downstairs. Officers entered the theater room and found 42-year-old Robert Coray Goodrich standing, holding onto the female victim with one arm and a shotgun in the other. Officers were able to swiftly and safely retrieve the victim and detain Robert.
The female victim stated that Robert had just racked the shotgun and had pointed it toward her when she screamed, and officers made entry into the room. The victim stated Robert had told her to hang up the phone when she had first dialed 911. The female victim stated that Robert made statements to her while holding the shotgun, something to the effect of "Accidents like this happen all the time when people are drunk and fighting.” (Implying Robert would shoot her).
The female victim stated every time she would try to ask for the gun, Robert would backhand her in the face, doing so several times on both sides of her face. The female victim stated her small minor child was in her bedroom and was sure she could hear Robert yelling at her.
Robert Goodrich was arrested and booked into Uintah County Jail for:
Aggravated Assault domestic violence while unlawfully assaulting the female victim and while holding then chambering a shell and pointing it toward the female victim, creating a substantial risk of bodily injury and or death to the victim. 3rd degree Felony.
Domestic Violence in the presence of a child due to the fact that Robert intentionally caused bodily injury to the female victim by backhanding her several times and used a dangerous weapon likely to produce death or serious bodily injury against the female victim in the presence of the minor child in the home. 3rd degree Felony.
Damage to or interrupt a communication device while attempting to summon law enforcement aid. Robert told the female victim to hang up the phone and demanded verification that the female victim did not call 911—a class b misdemeanor.
Carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Upon being booked into Uintah County Jail, Robert blew a .283 breath alcohol level—class b misdemeanor.
Intoxication. Class C misdemeanor.
Law enforcement has had multiple calls to Roberts's residence, where the verbal domestic arguments and suicidal comments have continuously gotten worse. This time, the suicidal comments and argument escalated to Robert pointing a gun at the female victim and making alarming statements.
It is believed that Robert would escalate even further. Deputy Jones requested that no bail be placed on Robert until the female victim can coordinate her and her children's safety with the victim's advocate.
Therefore, the court orders that Robert Goodrich is to be held without bail.
