Police Respond To A Home Where A Person Is Screaming, And A Vehicle Is Trying To Hit Someone

On Saturday, officers with the Vernal City Police Department were called to a report of the sound of a person screaming outside of a residence and that there had been a black vehicle trying to hit someone. The complainant also reported that the suspect struck another vehicle when leaving the scene.

The officers met on the scene, where they received the information about the vehicle that had been hit by the suspect's vehicle. There was also a female on the scene who had been struck by the suspect as well. It was found she had not sustained any severe injuries, only redness on her hand.

A witness informed the officers that the driver's name was Daniel, and another individual had gotten into a physical fight at a nearby residence, and they were forced out of the home. Individuals on the scene went outside to tell them they couldn't drive away. Cpl White suspected that Daniel and his friend were intoxicated.

The victim, who had been struck by Daniel's vehicle, had gone outside to try to prevent them from hitting her car when they left. The victim had been standing near the front of their vehicle when Daniel began to back out of a nearby driveway with the passenger side door of his vehicle open. The victim stated that they had their hand on the open door in an attempt to keep Daniel's car from hitting their car.

The victim then stated that Daniel's vehicle accelerated backward, causing the open passenger-side door to strike the victim's hand. The victim then stated that they realized that Daniel's vehicle wasn't stopping, so they attempted to run away from the moving vehicle.

The victim then said that they began to trip over each other and got trapped between the passenger side door of the moving vehicle, their vehicle, and the individual hanging out of the passenger side of Daniel's vehicle. Eventually, the victim tripped and fell to the ground. The passenger side door of Daniel's vehicle also struck the victim's vehicle, which resulted in significant damage to that vehicle's front passenger side.

Witnesses on the scene reported that the passenger side door of Daniel's vehicle had been bent forward as a result of that collision.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Daniel Austin Brewer.

Cpl White contacted Daniel at his residence, where he admitted that there had been a fight but said, " He had been jumped by the individuals inside the house, so he had been attempting to leave to get to a safer place."

Daniel also admitted to drinking and to the one who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. Daniel stated he didn't recall that there had been a vehicle collision or that anyone had been struck by his vehicle.

An assisting officer found Daniel's vehicle at a separate location. His vehicle showed significant damage to the passenger side, specifically to the front passenger side door, consistent with the description the witnesses told Cpl White on scene.

Daniel Brewer was taken into custody and transported to the Uintah County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:

Aggravated assault for having committed an act, with unlawful force or violence, that caused bodily injury to another or created a substantial risk of bodily injury to another with the use of a dangerous weapon or other means or force likely to produce death or serious bodily injury pursuant to U.C.A. 76-5-103, a third-degree felony.

Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury for having reason to believe that he had been involved in an accident resulting in injury and having failed to comply by the guidelines set forth by U.C.A. 41 6a-401.3, a class A misdemeanor.
