Uintah County Sheriff's Department was dispatched on a report of a residential burglary in progress. Dispatch indicated that multiple subjects were on the scene stealing items and loading them onto a trailer. The female was believed to be armed with a pistol in her purse.
When Deputy Lyman arrived on scene, he spoke with a male near the road who said he was watching the residence while the owners were out of town. Two subjects were in the back of the property, and the deputy began walking toward them. One of the subjects approached the deputy while the female subject stayed in a vehicle.
The deputy talked to the male about what was happening at the residence. He said he was helping the female retrieve her vehicle. The female got out of the truck and approached the deputy and the male.
The female identified herself as 30-year-old Tara T. Beardall, who stated she was aware that she currently had warrants. Dispatch confirmed the warrants, and she was placed in handcuffs and placed in the patrol vehicle.
Deputy Lyman returned to the vehicle and discovered that it had been turned off, and the door had been shut, leaving Tara's purse locked inside. No one was able to get inside the truck at this time.
Tara was later transported to Uintah County Jail, where she was booked and held on her active warrants.
Tara informed Deputy Lyman that she is currently on Adult Probation and Parole. The deputy contacted her AP&P agent and responded to the jail to speak with Tara.
During their conversation, Tara consented to her agent and the deputy searching her purse and vehicle and looking for the firearm. The agent and Deputy Lyman returned to the vehicle, which Tara owned, and they gained access to it.
The officers searched the purse and the surrounding area. No firearm was found, and the purse was collected and placed into Tara's property at the jail. Nobody had access to the vehicle from the time Tara exited the vehicle until the purse was collected.
Deputy Lyman was later notified by Uintah County Jail staff that they had located a clear container with a white crystalline substance, which they suspected to be methamphetamine, inside Tara's purse.
The deputy returned on 9/09/24 and reviewed the report provided by jail staff. Due to Tara still being in jail for her warrants, she was booked on the new charges of Possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor, and Possession of a controlled substance, which was enhanced to a 3rd Degree Felony for prior convictions.
