Police receive an ATL on a Jeep for a possible DUI. Driver tells officer, "I pinky promise." When asked, you haven’t been drinking?

Roosevelt, UT. (4/18/26)—Dispatch advised law enforcement of an attempt to locate (ATL) at approximately mile marker 103, heading East. The complainant stated that a Jeep had been tailgating him and had almost rear-ended him near Myton.

Officer Wheeler drove to US-40 and waited for the vehicle to possibly enter the Roosevelt City limits. A black Jeep Cherokee passed by the officer, and she followed the vehicle into town and initiated a traffic stop. This vehicle was the complainant.

The complaint then pointed to the Jeep Gladiator passing them on US-40 driving East and said, "That's the jeep that was tailgating me." Officer Wheeler then caught up to the Jeep and initiated a traffic stop at 200 South 200 East in Roosevelt, Utah.

The officer approached the driver's side of the vehicle and advised the driver of the reason for the stop, and regarding the ATL.

The driver seemed confused by the reason but followed the instructions. During this time, the driver would not make eye contact with Officer Wheeler. She asked the driver for her license and insurance, and her movements were slow.

The driver presented a Utah Driver's License for 36-year-old Aamie Keesha Weather Lorraine Linford. Aamie pulled up the insurance on her phone. While the officer was at the window, she noticed the top of a can poking out of Aamie's bag. The officer had her lift up the can so she could see it. The can was an alcoholic beverage, but it was unopened.

Officer Wheeler performed a records check, and everything came back clear. She returned to the Jeep and asked Aamie, "You haven't been drinking? Aamie lifted her hand to the window and said, while slurring her words, "I pinky promise.” Officer Wheeler had Aamie step out of the vehicle and began SFSTs.

Before starting the tests, the officer asked Aamie if she had any previous head injuries or existing nystagmus that should be known of that could impact the test. Aamie stated that she had Cerebral injuries 8 years ago. Aamie began to really slur her words, making it difficult to understand. Officer Wheeler had to ask Aamie to repeat herself.

Based on Officer Wheeler’s observations of the tests and several clues of impairment from training and experience, the officer believed Aamie was operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Aamie was arrested, handcuffed, and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle while officers searched her vehicle. No open containers were found. Aamie's wallet and phone were gathered for transport with her to the hospital, where she gave consent to a blood sample.

Aamie was then transported to Duchesne County Jail.
