Police Called To A Welfare Check On A Man Walking In The Middle Of The Road

Vernal, Utah—On 3/18/2026, Deputy Young with the Uintah County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a welfare check for a man wearing a blue shirt who was walking in the middle of the road near 2000 N 1000 W.
The caller told dispatch he believed the man may be intoxicated. The deputy arrived and met the man matching the description, a 25-year-old named Brandon Bryce Pierce, walking down the shoulder of the road.
Brandon was using a sensor light as a flashlight and told Deputy Young he was "following the baby rattlesnakes." The deputy asked Brandon where he was going, and he said to 7-Eleven, but he didn't answer where he was staying.
During their conversation, Brandon would scream and throw his arms up at random times, and would show erratic behavior consistent with drug use through the deputy’s training and experience.
Law enforcement knew Brandon had a history of getting violent with first responders, so Deputy Young placed him in handcuffs for safety concerns. During the search of Brandon's person, the deputy found an open pocket knife in his pants pocket and pulled out a glass meth pipe with burnt meth residue inside.
Brandon was placed under arrest and taken to the Uintah County Jail and booked on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, public intoxication, and possession of methamphetamine. Brandon had at least two prior convictions of possession of dangerous drugs, which enhanced the charge to a 3rd degree felony.
