Vernal City Police Officer Candelas was called to a domestic disturbance at the East Meadows Mobile Home Park at 126 North 500 East.
The officer contacted the complainant, who was waiting for law enforcement at the entrance to the trailer park. The male complainant stated that he and his girlfriend were fighting over car keys.
The male showed the officer a bite mark on his left ribcage along with several scratch marks on his arms.
Officer Candelas then went to the trailer to speak with the female, who stated that the incident had begun as soon as she arrived at the residence. The male had put all his girlfriend's possessions on the porch.
She knocked on the door, needing to charge her phone, and he allowed her inside when an argument broke out between the two. The female had the car keys in one hand when her boyfriend tried to take them away from her.
The two started wrestling over the keys, with the male on top of the female. While on top of her, he punched his girlfriend in the face and tried to twist the keys out of her hand. The injuries on the female were consistent with her statement. She also mentioned while her boyfriend was on top of her, he laid his body on her face, and she bit him in an attempt to get him off of her.
The officer went back to speak with the male and asked him how he ended up on top of the female. He stated that they began fighting over the keys, and he landed on top of her. He claimed that his girlfriend began biting him, so he placed his knee on her head to get her to stop.
The male attempted to demonstrate how he put his knee on her while she was biting him. However, how he demonstrated was inconsistent with his description of the situation.
Sgt. Roth spoke with a neighbor who stated that she heard a female yelling, "Get off of me!"
At this point, Officer Candelas determined that 28-year-old Maxwell Richard Axt was the predominant aggressor and placed him under arrest for assault and disorderly conduct. Maxwell was booked in at the Uintah County Jail.
Maxwell Richard Axt may post bail in the amount of $1,240.00.
