Vernal, Utah—In the early morning hours of April 15th, 2026, Vernal City Police responded to a local business to a report of a male being confrontational with individuals in the store and saying he had a gun.
Upon officers' arrival on the scene, they were met by a witness to the incident who told police that a male, later identified as 21-year-old Tyler Louis Flye Davis, had been at that location and had become confrontational with individuals there. During the confrontation, Tyler told the witness that he had a gun and lifted the front of his shirt, exposing his waistline. The witness reported that they did not see a firearm at that time, and tried to fight them before getting into a car and leaving.
The witness informed officers on scene that two vehicles carrying people were involved in the confrontation and provided a description of the vehicles. One of the vehicles was identified as a white Ford Taurus.
While Cpl. White remained on scene to continue his investigation. Officer Maughan searched for the Ford Taurus and ultimately located the vehicle. Officer Maughan conducted a traffic stop at approximately 250 E 100 North, Vernal, UT.
The officer performed a records check and found that the suspect was 19-year-old Treyson Glade Westwood.
Treyson was ordered out of the vehicle, and while the officer spoke with the suspect, he could smell the odor of alcohol. Treyson admitted to having drunk a couple of beers, which he knew he shouldn't have, as he was only 19 years old. He was then asked by the officer to perform the standardized field sobriety tests.
Treyson submitted to a portable breath test, which resulted in a BrAC of .043.
A pat-down of Treyson had been performed, and subsequently, a nicotine vape and a vape with a clearly legible THC warning label and detachable battery were found on his person.
At this time, Officer Maughan determined that there was probable cause to arrest Treyson on the following charges: illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of marijuana/spice, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of tobacco by an adult minor.
An inventory was done on Treyson's vehicle in which Officer Maughan located another nicotine vape and an un-smoked marijuana joint inside a tube with a red THC warning label inside the center console.
Treyson was then placed in handcuffs and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
While Cpl. White was on scene he spoke with the managers, who allowed him to view the video footage. While viewing those videos, Cpl. White saw that the cameras could record both video and audio.
Cpl. White reviewed the footage and observed the previously mentioned witness engaging in a verbal confrontation with another individual, whom the officer believed to be Tyler. Those individuals were not within the camera's view at that time; however, the camera captured an audio recording of the exchange. Upon reviewing that footage, it was evident that the witness and Tyler were attempting to provoke one another into a physical altercation. At one point, Tyler told the witness that he had a gun.
After Cpl. White completed his investigation at the business. He met with Officer Maughan and other assisting officers. Tyler was identified as a passenger in that vehicle.
A records query of Tyler was conducted, which indicated that he was on probation and that a term of that probation qualified him as an alcohol interdicted person. It was determined by police that probable cause existed for the arrest of Tyler, and he was taken into custody.
Tyler was transported to the Uintah County Jail with the assistance of a Deputy with the Uintah County Sheriff's Office, where he was booked on the following charges: Possession of alcohol by an interdicted person, a Class B Misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct.
