It was reported to 9-1-1 that an intoxicated larger adult male wearing a white hoodie and shorts had came into Maverik and passed out at their seating area.
The complainant then reported the male then went into the bathroom and urinated all over the floor, which upset another patron who was inside the bathroom at the time.
The complainant further stated the male had taken some food from the shelf and possibly did not pay for it. She said she was concerned for the man’s safety because of how intoxicated he appeared to be.
When Deputy Simmons arrived, he located a male who matched the description. Roosevelt Police Officers Wheeler and Adams arrived to assist the deputy.
Officer Wheeler went into the store to verify if the male, later identified as 39-year-old Steven Joseph Lucero, had paid for his food items.
While waiting for Officer Wheeler to return Steven began to yell and become disorderly in public. The deputy informed him that he was under arrest. Due to Steven’s size he was placed in an extra set of handcuffs.
The employee stated she saw Steven enter the store just after midnight and then noticed he was passed out in the seating area and could smell alcohol on Steven. After a while, the employee said Steven had taken some food from the shelf and entered the bathroom.
The second complainant told Deputy Simmons he was inside the bathroom when Steven came in. This complainant also stated he could smell alcohol on Steven when he walked by. The complainant said he was in the stall and could hear Steven urinating on the floor and some splashed under his stall.
It was at this time Steven began to complain about medical issues and the deputy took him to the Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt.
While at the hospital Steven voluntarily provided a portable breath test sample of 0.065 BrAC. After Steven had been cleared from the hospital, he was transported to the Uintah County Jail.
While Steven was being searched at the jail, a deputy found a glass pipe in his right front pocket that Steven said he used to smoke marijuana out of.
