On Monday, Officer Kirk with the Vernal Police Department responded to a traffic accident at 760 N Vernal Ave.

The officer spoke with the driver of one of the vehicles, 48-year-old Joseph Derrell Stagg, who could smell the odor of alcohol coming from his breath.

Joseph was asked how much he had to drink, and he stated that he had only one beer.

Officer Kirk asked Joseph if he would be willing to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), and he agreed. During the test, the officer Didn’t see any clues that showed Joseph being impaired to a degree he wasn’t safe to operate a vehicle.

Joseph submitted to a portable breath test, and the results of the PBT were positive for alcohol .065 BrAC.

Joseph Stagg was arrested for alcohol-restricted driver and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
