Uintah County, Utah.- On 3/8/23, a Uintah County Deputy pulled over a vehicle for expired registration and the possibility of a wanted person inside the vehicle.
In the front passenger seat, the Deputy saw a male he knew from prior dealings and identified him as 44-year-old Scott Riley Peterson.
The Deputy gathered their information and conducted a records check on the individuals. An unknown female had an active warrant from another agency listed as a transport statewide. Scott was actively on probation.
While waiting for more information, another Deputy arrived with his K-9 to do a free air sniff around the vehicle. The K-9 indicated the odor of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle, and the individuals were removed so the Deputies could search the vehicle.
Peterson’s Parole Officer was contacted, and he asked the Deputies to complete a compliance search on Scott as well.
While searching the vehicle, inside the glove box, there was a black scale with brown powder on it. Scott was asked about the scale and brown powder, and he said several times he didn't know that stuff was in the vehicle.
Scott's PO was contacted and informed what was found during the search, and he asked that Scott be taken to jail for a 72-hour probation violation.
While interviewing the driver, he admitted that Scott hid the scale during the traffic stop, and while the Deputy went back to his Patrol vehicle to run their information, Scott took the keys and locked the glove box. Scott then gave the keys back to the driver and told him not to give the keys to the cops.
Scott Peterson was taken to the Uintah County Jail, where he was booked for the possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice.
The driver is also unknown.
