A Uintah County Deputy responded to a domestic violence call at the Uintah Basin Medical Center. The victim reported that she and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Alexander Bryant Shields, had gotten into an argument.
During the argument, Alex started to pour his prescription medication into his hand as if he was going to overdose. The victim grabbed the pill bottle from Alex. He then grabbed and pulled the victim's wrist until it popped.
She dropped the pill bottle and called a family member to pick up Alex, but before they arrived, Alex tried to leave while intoxicated. The victim and her juvenile son tried to stop him, but he pushed past them and drove away.
Deputy Roth observed the victim's swollen and bruised wrist, consistent with her statement.
The deputy located Alex at his ex-wife's home. He denied any altercation or injuries to the victim.
Deputy Roth could clearly see that Alex was intoxicated, and while speaking with him, his story was inconsistent. First, claiming no pill bottle existed, then said the victim took his medication, and finally that he shared his medication with the victim willingly.
Given the victim's statement, her visible injuries, Alex's intoxication, and inconsistent accounts of what occurred, Deputy Roth determined there was probable cause to arrest him.
Alex refused to cooperate with the paperwork and blamed his ex-wife.
Alex Shields was arrested and transported to the Uintah County Jail, and may post bail in the amount of $1770.00.
