Around 10:00 p.m., Officer Bird was dispatched to a suspicious person in the Davis Food and Drug parking lot. The person was slumped over the steering wheel, and the hazard lights were on.

When the officer arrived, he saw the white Chevrolet truck as described, and the hazards were flashing. Officer Bird walked up to the driver's side of the vehicle and saw an older male subject sitting in the driver's seat with the window rolled down.

While talking with the man, his speech was slurred. He was fidgeting around and couldn't stop moving. He did, at one point, start the vehicle, and the officer had him turn it off.

Officer Bird retrieved the man's information, identified him as 62-year-old Sterling Ewell Taveapont, and had him exit the vehicle.

When Sterling stepped out, he was leaning to the left very badly. Officer Bird asked him what was wrong, and he stated he had been in an accident and had problems with his back.

Field sobriety tests were conducted on Sterling, which he didn't pass. He was then arrested, and while checking him for weapons, a big bag of meth was found in his left front pocket. During the search of his vehicle, the officers found more drug paraphernalia.

Sterling was then transported to the UBMC ER for a blood test. While there, he consented to the test, during which his blood was drawn by medical staff.

Sterling was then transported to Duchesne County Jail for the charges of DUI, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
