Female calls police as her husband is following her, passes her, and then hits the brakes, causing her to hit the back of his vehicle.

Vernal, Utah (4/13/26)—At approximately 7:45 pm, Officer Boren was called to a domestic incident near 200 W and 100 S. The woman reported to the police that her husband was following her and that they had been in an accident.
The female told dispatch she was scared to stop and was driving around the police department because he was still following her. She reported that she had two of her children with her while this was going on. A short time later, Officer Boren met the female and 37-year-old Mathew Brandon Ross at the police department.
Officer Boren had contacted Mathew Ross prior to this incident. Mathew had reported that his wife had taken his children and not told him where she was taking them. Mathew stated he was concerned for their safety, and also mentioned that he had reported previous domestic violence issues with his wife, and they were having issues. This case was handled by another VPD officer earlier in the day.
During Officer Boren's conversation with Mathew, he stated he had found out where the kids were and wanted an officer to respond to their location. Deputy A. Russell responded to the call.
The female reported that Mathew had seen her driving on Main Street, turned around, and began following her. At one point, Mathew sped around her and slammed on the brakes, causing her vehicle to hit the back of Mathew's vehicle. She then put her car in reverse and started circling the block around the police station, waiting for officers to respond. The officer noticed a broken light on the front of her vehicle.
Mathew alleged that she was aware of his location, and when he saw her car, she turned off the road and nearly hit him. Mathew stated that he then turned around and began following her. After this, Mathew stated that he continued to follow her around the block around four times. He then stated that he did this because he wanted to see if his kids were safe. Mathew then elaborated that he had seen her location on an app on his phone.
Mathew stated that this is when he decided to follow her from a distance to figure out where his kids were. He denied ever speeding around her vehicle, causing the accident. Mathew also stated that he was not aware of any pre-existing damage to her vehicle. While inspecting Mathew’s vehicle, Deputy Russell observed slight damage to its rear.
Sgt. Cannon measured the height of the damage observed on both vehicles, and the heights seemed consistent. At this point, Officer Boren determined that probable cause existed to arrest Mathew.

Because Mathew monitored his wife’s location using an application, followed her, and then caused an accident to stop her vehicle, Mathew is being charged with Stalking. Due to the female and Mathew being cohabitants under Utah State Statute, this will be domestic violence in nature.
Because Mathew sped around the female’s vehicle and slammed on his brakes, causing an accident, he is being charged with Reckless Driving.
Because Mathew committed stalking with his 2 children present in the female’s vehicle, he is being charged with 2 counts of Domestic Violence in the Presence of a Child.
Mathew was transported and booked into the Uintah County Jail.
